What's the story?

The Money in the Bank pay-per-view is one of the biggest WWE events to take place after the 'Big Four' of the Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series. This year WWE made the event co-branded even before they announced that all the pay-per-view would feature stars from both Raw and SmackDown Live.

Money in the Bank 2018 is set to feature two Money in the Bank Ladder matches for both the men and women. According to rumors and speculation by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (H/T Ringside News), there may be a third Money in the Bank Ladder match to take place at the event.

In case you didn't know...

The Money in the Bank pay-per-view is set to be one of the big events of WWE, with an NXT Takeover scheduled to take place in Chicago on the same weekend. Takeovers usually take place before the big four shows, but that has changed from this year.

This year's WWE Money in the Bank PPV will feature four stars from the men's division and four from the women's division each from both brands. On this week's episode of Raw, Kurt Angle announced that the pay-per-view would feature two Money in the Bank Ladder matches for each of the Men's and Women's division.

The heart of the matter

After reports emerged that the local advertising for the Money in the Bank pay-per-view had talked about three Ladder matches for the briefcase, rumours ran rampant that WWE was planning on two Money in the Bank Matches for the Men's division of Raw and SmackDown Live, and a co-branded one for the women of both the shows.

These rumors appear to have been dispelled, with the Wrestling Observer speculating that if there was a third Money in the Bank Match it would be for the Tag Team Division.

“You know they’re going to do a men, they’re going to do a women, they may do a tag. If there is a third one that’s what it’s going to be.”

This was further expounded on by Mike Johnson on PW Insider Elite (H/T Ringside News) after Raw when Angle announced only two Ladder Matches. He said that despite the announcement, a third Money in the Bank Ladder Match may be in the works.

"There were multiple instances on this show where tag teams were talking about Money in the Bank? I think we’re getting a Tag Team Money in the Bank.”

During the show, there were repeated occasions where tag teams talked about Money in the Bank, including Ascension and Breezango.

What's next?

The Money in the Bank 2018 pay-per-view is set to take place on the 17th of June at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois.

Author's take

At the moment, although nothing is confirmed, it appears there is a big chance that WWE plans to have a third Money in the Bank Match, which will be for the Tag Teams.
