WWE Hell in a Cell 2021: 5 Reasons why Bobby Lashley defeated Drew McIntyre

Does WWE have much bigger plans for Bobby Lashley following his victory at Hell in a Cell?
Does WWE have much bigger plans for Bobby Lashley following his victory at Hell in a Cell?

Bobby Lashley successfully defended his WWE Championship in the main event of Hell in a Cell last night against Drew McIntyre for the last time.

The match stipulated that if The Scottish Warrior was unable to win back the WWE Championship inside Hell in a Cell, then he wouldn't be given another chance at the title.

McIntyre lost the match so now The Almighty will be given a chance to move on and test his mettle against much tougher opponents.

It was a surprise that McIntyre lost the match since he has been one of WWE's most-pushed stars in recent years and owns a clean victory over Brock Lesnar. That being said, this victory now opens up several possibilities for both McIntyre and Lashley moving forward.

The following list looks at just five reasons why WWE opted to have Bobby Lashley defeat Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell and send The Scottish Warrior to the back of the queue.

#5. Bobby Lashley is being built to be one of the company's most dominant champions following his victory inside Hell in a Cell

Bobby Lashley is everything that WWE has been looking for in a world champion and has already defied the odds with some impressive victories since his WWE Championship win back in March.

Following Lashley's win over The Miz on Monday Night RAW, the Champion was handed a new entrance which showed that he was set to become the stand-out star on the RAW brand.

Last night was Lashley's first match inside Hell in a Cell and he needed to prove his dominance over McIntyre and walk out with a victory if the company are hoping to pit him against any tougher challengers in the future.

McIntyre failed to pick up a victory inside the Cell on his debut last year and last night's victory for Lashley showed the level of difference between the two men and why Lashley is the current Champion.

WWE has some huge plans for The Almighty WWE Champion in the future and his feud with Drew McIntyre had to be finalized before he was able to move forward with a new challenger.

#4. Drew McIntyre vs Bobby Lashley was becoming repetitive and needed a definitive ending at Hell in a Cell

Drew McIntyre lost his final shot at the WWE Championship last night at Hell in a Cell when he was defeated by Bobby Lashley. McIntyre has challenged Lashley a number of times in recent months for his Championship but has been unable to defeat the former MMA star.

It was decided that McIntyre would be handed one last shot at the title following his victory over Kofi Kingston but to ensure that this was definitely his final chance, it was made into a stipulation for the match.

The WWE Universe has become quite vocal about the fact that Drew McIntyre has now been in the WWE Championship picture since his Royal Rumble win back in 2020. McIntyre went on to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania before then stepping into a feud with Randy Orton where he lost the Championship at last year's Hell in a Cell.

McIntyre later lost the Championship to The Miz after he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract earlier this year and has been trying to take the Championship back from Lashley in the months that have followed.

It appears that it's finally time for another superstar to step into the Championship picture and Drew McIntyre can then have a much-needed rest.

#3. Bobby Lashley could be waiting for Braun Strowman to return following his victory at Hell in a Cell

Bobby Lashley picked up a surprise victory over Drew McIntyre at Hell in a Cell last night, but it could be argued that there was another man who should have been in that match.

Braun Strowman was released from his WWE contract last month in one of the biggest surprises of 2021. Ahead of his release, Strowman was a prominent figure in the WWE Championship picture and it's hard to imagine that WWE would let him go and help boost their competition ranks.

Strowman has a 90-day non-compete clause and WWE could convince him to make his return in that time. It would be quite the swerve if WWE hadn't actually released Strowman had instead been lined up as Lashley's next opponent heading into Money in the Bank.

In order for this feud to take place, Lashley would have had to overcome the threat of Drew McIntyre at Hell in a Cell and prove he was ready for the challenge of The Monster Among Men.

#2. Kofi Kingston could be set to become Mr. Money in the Bank and challenge Bobby Lashley following Hell in a Cell

Kofi Kingston wasn't even on the card for last night's Hell in a Cell pay-per-view but has seemingly stepped into a storyline with Bobby Lashley and MVP.

Kingston has the unfortunate statistic of having competed in seven Money in the Bank ladder matches and failed to pick up a victory. Kane has also been in seven ladder matches but was able to pick up the win back in 2010.

This year could finally be Kingston's year since MVP has been vocal about the fact that the former WWE Champion has been too focused on The New Day and his return to the Tag Team Division was the reason KofiMania came to an end.

In order for Lashley and MVP to focus on Money in the Bank next month, the duo had to ensure that Drew McIntyre was in the rearview mirror last night at Hell in a Cell before they could move on to focus on Money in the Bank.

#1. Brock Lesnar vs Bobby Lashley could be planned for SummerSlam following his victory at Hell in a Cell

Bobby Lashley's victory last night in his debut match inside Hell in a Cell sent quite the statement to the WWE locker room.

One star that no longer inhabits WWE's dressing room is The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar. Since Lashley made his return to WWE back in 2018 there has been talk of a match between the two former MMA stars.

In recent months these talks have seemingly become much more serious and now that Lashley is the WWE Champion he could have a legitimate reason to take on Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar hasn't been part of WWE since WrestleMania last year, but the company could already be in talks with the former Champion to make his return and take on Lashley at SummerSlam now that the WWE Universe is back.

Lashley and Lesnar will cross paths eventually and now that Lashley is fast becoming one of the company's most dominant champions following his Hell in a Cell win, he will have gained the attention of The Beast Incarnate.
