Johnny Gargano posts a heartfelt tribute to Alex Shelley, AEW star responds

WWE NXT Superstar Johnny Gargano recently took to Twitter to post a heartfelt tribute to Alex Shelley. In his tweet, Gargano posted a photo of himself with Shelley at the WWE Performance Center along with a photo from 13 years ago.

Johnny Wrestling wrote how the former Impact star's wrestling style has been an inspiration for wrestlers like him and other fellow wrestlers of his generation and added that he felt great to meet up with him at the Performance Center last month.

However, AEW Star Chuck Taylor made a rather controversial comment on the first-ever NXT Triple Crown Champion's tribute post where he wrote that Gargano stole everything from Shelley.

Alex Shelley is one of the most decorated cruiserweight wrestlers of the current decade and is well-known for his tenure in Impact Wrestling where he was part of the popular tag-team, The Motor City Machine Guns, along with Chris Sabin. He also had a brief stint in NJPW where he tag-teamed with current NXT Superstar Kushida.

Johnny Gargano's current status

The heart and soul of NXT, Johnny Gargano reached the pinnacle of his career in NXT when he won the NXT Championship this year at NXT TakeOver: New York. He lost the title to Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: XXV and was unsuccessful in his attempt to win back the title from Cole at NXT TakeOver: Toronto.

Currently, Gargano is sidelined with a legit neck injury that he received when Finn Balor turned heel and performed the 1916 DDT on him at the entrance ramp.
