Earlier this year, Moxley’s contract with WWE expired and he left the company. Shortly after, he made an appearance at AEW’s Double or Nothing, confirming his allegiance with Tony Khan’s company.

Speaking in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Moxley stated that he was initially unhappy about leaving WWE.

“Once I decided I was going to leave, I wasn’t, like, happy about it for a while. I was pretty p****d about it because I am like, ‘are they really going to make me leave?’
“I wanted that ***king money, you know. It’s not like I don’t like money. I like to put it in a bank and look at it. I was like, ‘I can’t believe they are going to make me walk away from all this money.'
“Like, can’t you write one good ***king storyline?”

Things have been going incredibly well for Jon Moxley ever since joining AEW. He took on Joey Janela in his debut at Fyter Fest, which he won. Following the match, however, he was attacked by Kenny Omega, kickstarting a feud between the two which culminated in an unsanctioned Lights Out match at Full Gear that Moxley won.

In the last episode of AEW Dynamite, Moxley appeared through the crowd to stare down AEW Champion Chris Jericho after he successfully defended his title against Scorpio Sky, teasing a feud against Le Champion.
