The Mae Young Classic 2 begins!

The Mae Young Classic 2 is finally here, WWE's premiere all female wrestling tournament showcasing some of the best female wrestlers from around the world hits our screens for the second time.

This week's episode brought us four of its first round matches with Tegan Nox vs Zatara, Rhea Rhipley vs MJ Jenkins, Meiko Satamura vs Killer Kelly and Lacey Lane vs Vanessa 'The Mountain' Craven.

So, let's get right into it. Here are the results, review and video highlights for the premiere episode of the second Mae Young Classic

#1. Tegan Nox vs Zatara

The Mae Young Classic opened with the woman who was supposed to be in the first Mae Young Classic but was tragically injured just before, Tegan Nox, taking on the masked female luchador from Chile.

This was a great way to kick off this year's proceedings as Zatara is somewhat of a veteran and Nox is a lot of people's early favourite to win. The pair go full tilt from the offset with both women spilling to the outside fairly quickly.

Nox spent a lot of her time during the latter parts of the match trying to get her knee to go along with her as it was noticeably bandaged. It's unclear if this was storyline or a legitimate injury she was trying to fight through but nevertheless she picked up the win with the Shining Wizard

Result: Tegan Nox Def. Zatara

As is always the case with these kind of tournaments it's almost a shame Zatara is out as she looked impressive as well.

#2. Rhea Rhipley vs MJ Jenkins

Rhipley is the first woman to compete who has an idea of what to expect having also competed in the first Mae Young Classic. But her opponent was an incredibly game MJ Jenkins.

Jenkins played the role of the plucky babyface here against the bigger and more dominant heel Rhipley, with the match essentially boiling down to Rhipley using her size and strength to control proceedings but Jenkins proving increasingly more frustrating by refusing to be beaten.

In the end all of Jenkins' resilience, heart and determination proved to be for nought though as Rhipley advanced to the next round with a huge Powerbomb

#3 Lacey Lane vs Vanessa 'The Mountain' Kraven

Lane is a new Performance Center recruit for WWE but she had her work cut out for her in the Mae Young Classic 2 first round as her opponent was the 6-foot-two, aptly nicknamed, Vanessa 'The Mountain' Kraven.

This was your classic smaller wrestler attempts to overcome the size disadvantage by being quicker type of match. Lane spent most of her time dodging Kraven's attacks whilst occasionally taking advantage of her speed to land a kick to her opponent.

Eventually Kraven's power did put Lane down but it was Lane who eventually triumphed after Kraven missed a Cannonball.

Killer Kelly is currently part of the NXT UK roster, despite hailing from Portugal and Meiko Satomura is nothing short of a legend having wrestled for many years in Japan. I think we could all tell how this was going.

That being said, Kelly did put in an incredible account for herself against one of the hardest hitting women the wrestling industry has ever seen (Satomura can give Pete Dunne a run for his money for crying out loud.) Plus, she took some very, very stiff shots. Like this one.

Satomura eventually put Kelly away with a Death Valley Driver but the two competitors shook hands in a mark of respect afterwards, with Kelly having won Satomura's respect.
