Despite the relegation of his gimmick, The Phenom's adulation for Barrett elevated his chances of facing the Undertaker.

As far as rumors go, the Undertaker was seriously considering early retirement in 2011 and chose Barrett to end the streak and get a phenomenal rub.

However, Vince's refusal to the idea compounded with Triple H's inclusion led to the cancellation of a solid bout.

The Evolution has fallen down to the Phenom

Commencing the proceedings by defeating Ric Flair at WrestleMania 18 which began the acknowledgment of the Undertaker's streak, the Phenom went on to beat Randy Orton at WrestleMania 21, Batista at WrestleMania 23, and Triple H at WrestleMania 17, 27 and 28.

His matches with Triple H, Batista, and Randy Orton, are remembered for its particularly well-crafted storytelling, and fantastic in-ring action.

The Olympic Gold Medalist was the chosen one

Before Brock Lesnar was even considered to end the Undertaker's streak, the Phenom suggested the "Olympic Gold Medalist" to retire him.

Kurt Angle in an interview in 2011 threw some light on the speculations and said the following

" I was champion in 2006 and Undertaker approached me and said he wanted to face me at WrestleMania. Until then, Undertaker didn't have a WrestleMania moment with a five star match. He thought he could have that with me, and he was considering possibly losing as long as he had that moment he wanted, and I don't blame him. Vince said no way, and I agreed with Vince. I don't think Undertaker should ever have lost at WrestleMania, I think he should have been undefeated forever. They made their choice, and if you're going to do it with anybody, do it with Brock Lesnar, because he's as legit as it gets. Me and Undertaker ended up having our match at No Way Out 2006. If you ever see that match, it was definitely a WrestleMania type of match."

The Olympic Gold Medalist stood as a legitimate contender to end the Undertaker's streak at WrestleMania 22 before Vince McMahon vehemently rejected the idea.

Considering the in-ring versatility of both the performers, the match would have been a masterpiece if the company gave it the green light.

Brock Lesnar's conquering of the streak is the most shocking, yet disappointing moments in WWE history.
