Money in the Bank 2021: 3 Reasons why Kofi Kingston should dethrone Bobby Lashley & 3 he shouldn't

At Money in the Bank 2021, Kofi Kingston will finally get another WWE Championship opportunity. While he was in the running to get a title shot at Hell in a Cell, Kingston lost a No. 1 contender's match to Drew McIntyre - who went on to lose his "last chance" WWE title match.

It's an interesting match-up. Kofi Kingston is back in the WWE Championship picture after nearly two years - and it seems to be a fresher storyline. It didn't help that WWE ran the Bobby Lashley-Drew McIntyre feud to the ground with repeated matches.

There is a case for Kingston to win the WWE Championship, even if many disagree. The other side of the argument is valid as well and perhaps presents stronger points.

Here are three reasons why Kofi Kingston should win the WWE Championship from Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank and three he shouldn't:

#3. Should dethrone Bobby Lashley: Re-establishing Kofi Kingston as a top babyface on RAW

Kofi Kingston had the greatest year of his career in 2019 - and that's saying something. Even before his WWE Championship victory, he was a highly-accomplished veteran who won nearly everything in the company.

However, his 2019 run marked his actual entry as a main event superstar and it seemed like he became a sensation overnight. While the gauntlet match performance in February 2019 made him the biggest babyface on SmackDown, it was a decade of hard work that led to that point.

It was a storyline that clicked and there was no superstar in WWE hotter than Kofi Kingston heading into WrestleMania 35. At the Grandest Stage Of Them All, he reached the pinnacle of the wrestling industry by winning the WWE Championship.

But little did fans know that Kingston would go on to have a respectable six-month reign with the WWE title. He was presented as a strong babyface and although not every match on pay-per-view clicked, he was a legitimate WWE Champion.

It all came crashing down on the SmackDown on FOX premiere when Brock Lesnar dethroned him in ten seconds. Since then, Kingston has found tag team success, but he hasn't reached the same level.

RAW needs top babyfaces right now and Kofi Kingston dethroning Bobby Lashley would make a lot of sense as WWE enters the post-ThunderDome era. While Kingston shouldn't be the star who RAW is built around long-term, he could fill the spot for a while.

#3. Shouldn't dethrone Bobby Lashley: Kofi Kingston shouldn't disrupt The All Mighty's momentum

Unfortunately, Bobby Lashley's momentum has been tampered with unnecessarily in the last couple of months. He has lost to Kofi Kingston in a non-title match and even lost to Xavier Woods recently.

Lashley hasn't looked the strongest in the feud with Kingston and it seems to be an injustice done to The All Mighty WWE Champion. He looks legitimate, is legitimate, and should be presented as such.

Since Bobby Lashley's momentum has been damaged recently, it's not a good idea for Kofi Kingston to be the man to end the dominant run of The All Mighty. He can quickly regain momentum with a month of strong booking where he seems untouchable.

It would even be better if the Lashley-Kingston match was one-sided in the Champion's favor. While it would be at the expense of the New Day member, Bobby Lashley is the man that WWE has invested the most in on Monday Night RAW these past five months. It would be slightly underwhelming to end his WWE Championship reign at Money in the Bank 2021.

#2. Should dethrone Bobby Lashley: Kofi Kingston winning would shake up RAW

There's another reason to justify Kofi Kingston dethroning Bobby Lashley. With WWE entering the post-ThunderDome era starting this week, a lot of things are going to change. This could include the overall direction of the product and Kingston might benefit from the circumstances, even in the short run.

The WWE Championship picture between February and June involved only Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre, with Braun Strowman making his presence briefly before his release.

Kingston was close to contention but only officially entered the main picture after McIntyre lost to Lashley again. A big shake-up is needed on RAW, particularly in the main event scene.

Bobby Lashley certainly belongs at the top-tier level, but WWE may decide that a change is more important than investing more in The All Mighty. As a result, WWE could pull off a swerve and have Kofi Kingston dethrone him clean.

It may not even be a long-term reign for Kingston. He could unfortunately be another transitional Champion like The Miz was this year to build upon another superstar.

#2. Shouldn't dethrone Bobby Lashley: Kofi Kingston would block a dream Brock Lesnar match

Kofi Kingston winning the WWE title would prevent this match from ever happening
Kofi Kingston winning the WWE title would prevent this match from ever happening

Kofi Kingston vs. Brock Lesnar in a redemption arc would seem nice, but it may not turn out as fans hope. If Kingston and Lesnar cross paths again, the chances of the New Day member defeating The Beast Incarnate seem little to none.

Instead, we would be lucky if Kofi Kingston got any offense in. Meanwhile, there could be a blockbuster SummerSlam match between Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar.

It's a match that everybody wants to see and it's a match that needs to happen sooner rather than later. With a blockbuster Roman Reigns vs. John Cena match planned for the SummerSlam main event, a good opener or co-main event would be Lashley vs. Lesnar.

Unfortunately, Kofi Kingston dethroning Bobby Lashley would completely kill the chances of that happening. While there are rumors of Brock Lesnar not appearing at SummerSlam, it would be the best stage to host the match.

If WWE is to delay the feud, then Lashley must retain the WWE title until SummerSlam at least and the next pay-per-view main event can be Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar.

Kofi Kingston winning will mean that the dream match will never happen.

#1. Should dethrone Bobby Lashley: Kofi Kingston to be involved in a double turn

Kofi Kingston was involved in some backstage segments with MVP on RAW early last month. In these segments, there was a tease of Kingston joining The Hurt Business.

While it seems far-fetched and unrealistic, he could win as a result of a double turn. This would mean Bobby Lashley turning face while Kofi Kingston takes his place in The Hurt Business.

It would also mean the official death of The New Day in any form. It might not seem realistic, but it would be a breath of fresh air.

#1. Shouldn't dethrone Bobby Lashley: A better way to form Hurt Business 2.0

What if Kofi Kingston could lose at Money in the Bank but still join The Hurt Business. Perhaps he could take Bobby Lashley to the limit, earning some level of respect.

This would be the perfect set-up for Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods to join MVP and Bobby Lashley, officially forming The Hurt Business 2.0. It would be another big plot twist, especially since Kingston hasn't been a heel since early 2016.
