NJPW News: Kenny Omega plays a hilarious April Fool's prank

The joke did not last too long though
The joke did not last too long though

What's the story?

Kenny Omega has become the favourite of the IWC, because of his ability to tell compelling stories in addition to performing a spectacular array of moves. Therefore, the internet was shocked when he posted the following:

Reacting to the flurry of messages he received, Omega cleared the air and said it was all an April Fool's joke. He apologized for his actions as it was not April 1 everywhere in the world.

In case you didn't know...

While some have wrongfully described Kenny Omega as a spot oriented wrestler, the reality of the matter is that a lot of his matches have had a buzz around them because of the emotional investment of the said matches.

This includes his blood feud with Chris Jericho, the recently concluded Young Bucks vs. Golden Lovers match and the upcoming contest between Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega.

The heart of the matter

Kenny Omega shocked the internet wrestling community by making a statement that he didn't believe in and similarily, one that his fans wouldn't necessarily attribute to him. Based on the backlash he received, he quickly made amends and clarified it was merely a joke.

From the looks of it, Omega will continue to tell emotional stories that resonate with his fans for years to come. Ones that will continue to put NJPW and ROH on the map, or even WWE, if Omega, does in time, decided to jump ship.

What's next?

Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega will lock horns at Supercard of Honor in a match that will determine the future of the Bullet Club. This will happen on WrestleMania weekend, from New Orleans. Again, because of the storyline involved, this is a more highly anticipated match than the title match on the same card.

Author's take

Well, it wasn't the best prank in the world. Omega could have said something like he's going to WWE, and shocked the IWC significantly more.

Quite an underwhelming joke, all said and done, really.
