NXT TakeOver WarGames III: 5 potential outcomes to the Triple Threat Match to determine the #1 contender for the NXT Championship at Survivor Series

Three big Superstars, one massive match.
Three big Superstars, one massive match.

On the October 16th episode of NXT, Pete Dunne and Damian Priest were set to do battle. Before the match, Dunne had a confrontation with Killian Dain and snapped his fingers. Priest defeated the former NXT UK Champion, and we received a rematch between the two men on November 6th.

In their second match, Dunne took the victory by submission, but Dain attacked both men after the match and stood tall to close the segment. This led to a match being scheduled between Dain and Dunne on the following episode of NXT, but the match never began as Priest attacked Dain from behind and stood tall after taking out both men.

This led to an announcement that a Triple Threat Match between Dunne, Dain, and Priest would take place at NXT TakerOver: WarGames, with the winner receiving an NXT Championship match against champion Adam Cole at Survivor Series, held the following night.

With so much to gain and nothing to lose, all three Superstars will try their best to pick up the win and go into the next night dreaming of gold.

In this article, we will look at the five potential outcomes for the match between the three, and what it could mean for the NXT Champion Adam Cole.

#5 Killian Dain wins

Killian Dain has been unforgiving since his return

Let’s begin with the most unlikely possibility. Killian Dain moved back to NXT a couple of months ago and managed to get into some interesting singles feuds. Dain had a great rivalry with Matt Riddle and the two big men had some hard-hitting matches, although Dain came up short in the rivalry.

Dain then found himself in a high profile rivalry with Pete Dunne and is now in the run to become the #1 contender for the NXT Championship for an event as big as Survivor Series.

Dain is arguably the least known singles wrestler in this feud, but is one who can dominate any other Superstar on any given day. Keeping that in mind, it’s possible that Dain will come out on top in this match and get a chance to compete for the NXT Championship at Survivor Series. He is the biggest man in the match and could use his size to his advantage.

However, a match between Cole and Dain will not be met with the same positive reaction as a match between Cole and a bigger name at Survivor Series.

#4 An interference

Interferences are part and parcel for WWE storylines, and they keep the surprise factor and story alive in many ways. This will be a high profile match and chances of interference are much higher with such high stakes.

In the past, we’ve seen Adam Cole or any one or all of the members of Undisputed Era interfere in #1 Contenders Matches in order to protect their titles. This could happen once again at WarGames, and the four men could beat down the contenders of the match leading to a disqualification.

On the other hand, we could see the return of The Velveteen Dream, who could lay out all the competitors in the match and take their spot in the high profile match on Sunday.

Another man who could prove to interfere in the match is Finn Balor. The former NXT Champion is set to take on Matt Riddle during the event, and could also play havoc in the #1 Contenders Match to take the spot at Survivor Series. A match between Cole and Balor could steal the show and give fans much more than they could ever hope for.

#3 Damian Priest wins

Damian Priest has proven to be a breakout heel in NXT in just a short span of time. He’s had several great rivalries on the brand, with his most recent against Pete Dunne proving to be the very best.

‘The Archer of Infamy’ made a huge mark when he took out both Dunne and Dain last week before their scheduled match would take place. By doing so, he made a statement and instantly became a much bigger star than he already was.

Now that he’s in the big leagues, and already competing for a top spot to battle for the NXT Championship, it seems like the company is ready to invest in him over the months to come. If that is the case, WarGames could prove to be the perfect launching pad for the Superstar who could outdo the two men with whom he’s picked a fight with.

He’s the most diverse Superstar of the lot, and even though he is very new, we all know that he could give Adam Cole a great match at a big event. Priest has the ability to outlast both men and could use his heelish tactics to wear out both Dain and Dunne before shooting both men down and picking up the win.

#2 Goes into a no contest

This is a very likely outcome that we could see at the event. The rivalry between these three men hasn’t received the screen time it deserves, and is already getting a big match at WarGames with such a huge spot on the line.

What we do know is that all three men won’t back down from the challenge, and they are capable of doing whatever it takes to win the match. This could involve them going to any extent to win the match.

When Dain last battled Riddle, we saw their Street Fight go to a no contest. Dunne and Priest are as brutal as any other member of the NXT roster, and we could see these three men brawl to such an extent that they forget about what they’re fighting for and make things much more personal.

This could result in all three getting completely wiped out and the match going to a no-contest, leading to William Regal announcing that the match for Survivor Series will now be a Fatal Fourway involving all three men and NXT Champion Adam Cole. This would be a huge match and fit perfectly on the Survivor Series card while giving the fans something different to look forward to.

#1 Pete Dunne wins

The most likely and logical outcome of this battle seems to be a victory for Pete Dunne.

‘The Bruiserweight’ is a former NXT United Kingdom Champion and held the title for the longest time ever. This clearly shows how dominant the man is, and what he can do on the NXT roster, if given the chance.

Dunne is arguably the most popular and unique wrestler in this contest and can overcome the odds to go over and earn an NXT Championship opportunity at Survivor Series. The company will be looking for a big challenger for Adam Cole at Survivor Series, and there is no one more deserving than Dunne, as he has done so much in the UK Division.

Dunne could defeat Priest and Dain in a hard-fought match, and emerge victorious to take on Adam Cole the next night.

During last year’s WarGames, Dunne was part of the team that took on The Undisputed Era in the WarGames match. If he wins this year, it could be a fitting spot for the young man who may become the future face of the company.
