RAW Reunion: 4 signs that indicate towards a match between Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles

Two of the best of all time
Two of the best of all time

With the RAW Reunion complete, writers are pouring down their thoughts about the show. Everyone has their unique way of looking at things and that is what makes the hours post a WWE show so interesting.

The show itself was a good one bar some things, of course, as legends from the past met the stars of the present to put out a decent show. There were quite a few highlights of the show: Bray Wyatt putting Mick Foley to sleep, the 24/7 Championship changing hands several times…

…and The Club (rechristened to The Only Club) having a face-off with DX.

It all began when Seth Rollins took on AJ Styles in a singles match. Styles, as expected, was accompanied by Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. As Rollins was about to hit the Phenomenal One with a Stomp, Gallows and Anderson interfered and physically assaulted Rollins, who was alongside Shawn Michaels and Triple H.

Soon after, the Only Club confronted the trio when the New Age Outlaws and nWo came to their rescue.

In the midst of all of this, there was something that made me feel that we could yet witness a match between Shawn Michaels and AJ Styles…

And here are 4 signs that indicate that…

#4 Shawn Michaels came out of retirement last year

Yes, I know it was a bad match and I wished that my second most favorite wrestler of all time didn’t come out of retirement to face the Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia last year.

Michaels is one of the few Superstars who when retired, stayed retired… until last year.

After over 8 years out of in-ring action, Michaels returned in Saudi Arabia and even though it was bad, he can still buckle up and train to fight another match at 54 years of age – which is the same as The Undertaker, who is still fighting.

#3 Shawn Michaels is a face

While there are millions who love Shawn Michaels, many also claim that he was difficult to work with during his younger days. His heel persona, too, was fantastic as he had the ability to make fans hate him with the dastardly acts he carried out as a villain.

During the last part of his career, however, he was among the best babyfaces in the company and the fact that almost every WWE fan had tears in their eyes during his retirement speech on RAW is a testament to how much people love him.

After all these years, that hasn’t changed one bit as his name alone is enough to make the fans go crazy. He is still among the most lovable characters in the face and that makes him readymade to have a feud against AJ Styles as…

#2 AJ is now a heel

Not many Superstars can brag about being as successful as AJ Styles has been in WWE ever since he joined the company. Despite the fact that he is an Impact (formerly TNA) legend, WWE have pushed him to the moon and have made him the top star of the company.

What makes Styles so phenomenal is not only his ability to put out exceptional matches inside the ring but also his skill when it comes to playing both a babyface and a heel.

It must be added that his babyface run was getting stale during its final few months and WWE made the right decision to turn him into a bad guy. What this also does is that the platform is set for him to have a fight against one of the biggest babyfaces in the history of the business, Shawn Michaels.

But the biggest reason is the one that comes next…

#1 Verbal altercation at RAW Reunion

There was a verbal altercation

Did you notice that? As the Only Club members carried a chair each and were ready to pounce on the trio of Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Seth Rollins, the music hit and the New Age Outlaws alongside nWo members Kevin Nash and Scott Hall came out to help their friends.

As a result, the OC members had to retreat and while doing so, AJ Styles was heard saying “I will show you something” to Shawn Michaels. Out of all the members that were down there, the fact that he chose Michaels to say that was very interesting.

It is in that exact moment when I felt like we might really have a match between one of the best in-ring performers of the previous era face of one of the greatest of this era – a dream match for so many.

Right now, however, it is only but that: a dream. Only time will tell whether WWE makes it a reality.
