RAW Reunion: Ranking the 5 best WWE legend appearances

It was great to see all the legends tonight
It was great to see all the legends tonight

This week's episode of was a star-studded RAW Reunion special, and featured one of the most stacked TV rosters in the company's history.

The show featured appearances from John Cena, Ric Flair, Steve Austin, Santino Marella, Torrie Wilson, Mick Foley, Hulk Hogan and many, many more.

The show was filled with surprises, such as Kelly Kelly becoming the first woman to win the WWE 24/7 Title, and John Cena opening the show with a Dr. of Thuganomics style shot at The Usos, referencing their past "mugshots."

Let's rank the 5 best legend appearances from this week's WWE Raw Reunion special, in order of impact and sheer shock value.

#5 Rob Van Dam

The idea of Rob Van Dam making a surprise appearance at the WWE RAW Reunion special would have seemed like a foolish prediction just this morning, but the former WWE and ECW Champion did, in fact, appear on the show tonight.

While RVD's appearance was standard fare for the show, the shock of a currently contracted Impact Wrestling talent appearing on WWE TV was palpable. Additionally, WWE hilariously mentioning RVD's regular use of marijuana with a joke about Mr. Monday Night needing eyedrops, was a page right out of the Attitude Era playbook.

It was great to see RVD back in WWE, even if for just one night, and it certainly gives Impact Wrestling something to talk about, as the company was quick to point out RVD's appearance on social media by Tweeting,

It's worth stressing that RVD's appearance on WWE RAW tonight was a one-off deal, and he has not re-signed with the company. Van Dam remains under contract with Impact Wrestling and his deal lasts through this year's Bound For Glory PPV.

#4 John Cena

WWE fans last saw John Cena at WrestleMania 35, when he appeared as The Dr. of Thuganomics and cut a classic, old school rap which harkened back to the days of the Cenation Leader's original gimmick in WWE.

While John Cena made his appearance at tonight's WWE RAW Reunion special in his modern garb, he certainly called back to his Thuganomics days when challenged to do so by The Usos.

In what was possibly the best line uttered on WWE RAW this week, Cena cut a non-PG promo on The Usos, referencing Jimmy Uso's arrest earlier this year after a drunken dispute with police in Detroit. Cena told The Usos they "look like their mugshots", which drew a surprised reaction from both the fans in attendance at RAW and The Usos themselves.

Following WWE RAW this week, it remains unknown when fans will see John Cena in a WWE ring again, as he is currently busy filming his new movie "Fast & Furious 9."

#3 Madusa

Tonight is not the first time WWE has done legend themed episodes of television, but tonight felt a bit out of the ordinary as it pertains to shows filled with Hall of Famers on the broadcast.

Most of the legends who appeared on RAW this week made their presence felt in a more meaningful way than usual, and perhaps no one did this more than WWE Hall of Famer Madusa, aka Alundra Blayze.

Madusa tapped out Candice Michelle at one point on Raw tonight to win the 24/7 title, and after the win she oddly declared she would not be Champion for very long.

Later in the night, Madusa recalled one of the most controversial moments in pro wrestling history, when she made the jump from WWE to WCW and infamously threw the WWE Women's title in a trash can live on Monday Nitro.

Tonight on Raw, Madusa almost recreated the legendary scene, but was interrupted by The Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase, who bought the title from her!

#2 Steve Austin

Steve Austin's appearance at the WWE Raw Reunion special this week garnered a mixed reaction from fans online, as some people were expecting more from Stone Cold, namely a Stunner-off with Kevin Owens.

Despite the above not happening, it's always great to see Steve Austin in a WWE ring, even if he was at the show primarily to plug his new reality interview show coming to USA Network.

The Toast To Monday Night Raw segment was fun, and a particular highlight was another great, non-PG morsel dropped by Austin when he exclaimed, "I ain’t gonna be sending anyone Christmas cards or none or that [expletive]."

It remains unknown when the beer chugging, middle finger waving Texas Rattlesnake will next appear on WWE television, but with RAW soon to be the lead-in for Austin's new show on USA Network, here's to hoping Austin drops by the red brand again in the near future to hit a few stunners and drink a few beers.

#1 Pat Patterson

Admittedly, the 24/7 concept was something I abhorred when it was first introduced in WWE awhile back by Mick Foley, but the concept has since taken on a life of its own and has become some of the most entertaining aspects of Raw in recent weeks.

Tonight was no different when WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson was able to defeat Drake Maverick to win the title, becoming the oldest title holder in the brief history of the 24/7 title. Patterson's title "reign" would not last long, however, as he quickly lost the belt to his good friend Gerald Brisco, who in turn lost the title to a returning Kelly Kelly.

There were a handful of really great legend moments during tonight's WWE Raw Reunion, from Ron Simmons using Jimmy Hart's megaphone, to Santino Marella busting out the Cobra, but in the end, the sheer absurdly comic nature of Pat Patterson winning the 24/7 title ranked as the night's best offering.
