Roman Reigns crowned as the new WWE United States Champion at WWE Clash of Champions 2016

The Big Dog captures the US Championship

Roman Reigns defeated Rusev at Clash Of Champions to become the new United States Champion. The match was a good one, with multiple interferences from Lana before she was told to leave by the referee. Reigns even powered out of the accolade, becoming only the third person to do so (John Cena and Zack Ryder were the other two). Reigns finished the match after a spear to The Bulgarian Brute.

This is an interesting situation. The fact that Reigns now holds the United States Championship is a likely indicator that he won’t be returning to the main event picture anytime soon. Had he not been the US Champion, they likely could insert him back into the Universal Title picture. This may also be an opportunity for Rusev to transition into the main event scene. They will also likely have a rematch at Hell In A Cell. Whether it will be in a Hell In A Cell match, it is not known. But don’t be surprised if that is the case. Reigns was pushed down to the upper midcard this year after his suspension. He was supposed to have a match at Summerslam with Rusev for the US Championship but the match did not happen due to reported time constraints. The two finally had their match tonight at Clash Of Champions and The Big Dog ended up standing tall. This is a good step in helping to elevate the US Championship, similar to what John Cena did last year. Here are some twitter reactions to the leader of the Roman Empire’s win:
