SummerSlam 2019: 2 matches that might steal the show and 2 matches that might not live up to the hype

Which match will live up to the hype?
Which match will live up to the hype?

The Biggest Show of the Summer has arrived and we are less than forty eight hours away. Toronto will host SummerSlam for the first time and we could expect an action-packed show. Considering the match card, SummerSlam should meet the expectations of the fans.

SummerSlam is one of the big four PPVs of the company. It is considered the second biggest pay-per-view after WrestleMania. SummerSlam was introduced in 1988 and it will be thirty second edition of the show in Toronto. SummerSlam will take place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

A total of ten matches are confirmed for the event and it will be interesting to see if some more matches are added to the card. A number of titles will be defended at SummerSlam, while some gigantic names will compete.

Let's analysis two matches that could steal the show at SummerSlam and two matches that might not live up to the hype.

#2 Might not live up to the hype: Goldberg vs Dolph Ziggler

Will Goldberg deliver?
Will Goldberg deliver?

Goldberg made a shocking return on RAW where he showed up to challenge Dolph Ziggler. The Show Off was taking shots at Goldberg and the latter answered it on the Red Brand this week. The Miz backed out from the match as he was scheduled to fight Ziggler at SummerSlam.

Goldberg's last match was at Super ShowDown where he fought The Undertaker. There is no denying that it was a disastrous showing and the dream match turned into a nightmare. Goldberg will be aiming to prove the critics wrong when he will grace the ring at Scotiabank Arena.

Although WWE has hyped the bout this week, the fans could get disappointed. Ziggler is certainly an incredible performer but the same cannot be applied on Goldberg. Despite being a titanic name, Goldberg never delivered classic matches. Moreover, the fifty-two-year-old is in the twilight of his career and we can not expect an awe-inspiring performance from the WCW legend. A majority of his matches have been squash matches to prove the dominance and the scenario could be similar on Sunday.

#2 Might steal the show: Charlotte Flair vs Trish Stratus

It should be an exciting match up

The match between Charlotte Flair and Trish Stratus could stand out from the rest if the two women perform to their full potential. Without a shadow of a doubt, it will be the biggest match of the women's division after the memorable main event of WrestleMania 35. Considering it will be the final match of Trish Stratus' career, she will leave no stone unturned to deliver a great performance.

The match was confirmed a couple of weeks ago when Charlotte confronted Trish Stratus on SmackDown Live. Prior to the confrontation, the Queen promised to face a big name at the Biggest Party of the Summer and she challenged the seven-time Women's Champion.

Since Charlotte and Trish share multiple titles between them, the anticipation is sky-high from the bout. While Charlotte is currently one of the best performers of the company, Trish was equally good in her prime if not better. Though the WWE Hall of Famer has been away from the squared circle, her last match was at Evolution where she produced a stellar performance. Judging by Trish's last bout, she is still competent to go toe-to-toe with the Queen and they might produce one of the best matches of the night in Toronto.

#1 Might not live up to the hype: Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins

Rollins has a mountain to climb after the assault
Rollins has a mountain to climb after the assault

Seth Rollins and Brock Lesnar are set to take on each other at SummerSlam as the latter will defend the Universal Title. The Beast Incarnate cashed in the Money in the Bank contract at Extreme Rules where he pinned the former champion. Although the BeastSlayer didn't get an automatic rematch, he punched the ticket for SummerSlam by winning a ten-man Battle Royal Match.

The feud has garnered the attention of the WWE Universe in recent weeks. Lesnar brutally assaulted Rollins last week and it continued this week. Rollins didn't look like a competition to Lesnar as he was completely helpless. Following the vicious two assaults, Rollins will not be at his peak in Toronto and he might have a kayfabe injury.

Judging the current situation, it could be a daunting task for Rollins and he might not emerge victorious in the rematch. While the fans expect the Universal Championship match to be competitive, it will not be surprising if Lesnar picks up an easy victory over the injured Rollins. Their previous meeting was WrestleMania 35 and the match lasted less than ten minutes.

#1 Might steal the show: Ricochet vs AJ Styles

It is not a surprising entrant here and the United States Championship Match has the potential to be the match of the night. AJ Styles, who is the US Champion, will defend the belt against Ricochet at SummerSlam. The two Superstars are not strangers to each other. They have delivered exceptional matches and we could see another classic match at Scotiabank Arena.

Ricochet and Styles began their rivalry after Stomping Grounds. The Phenomenal One has rejuvenated himself after turning heel and he has been on a roll after reuniting with Luke Gallows and Carl Anderson. Styles grabbed the US Championship after pinning Ricochet at Extreme Rules.

While Styles is arguably the best in-ring performer of Vince McMahon's company, Ricochet is not far away. The former NXT North American Champion is a stupendous high-flyer who offers awesome matches regularly. If the two men are booked well in a lengthy match, they can tear the house down with some jaw-dropping manoeuvres in Toronto.
