10 WWE Superstars and their Pokémon counterparts

Who says WWE and Pokémon can’t coexist?

With the Pokémon Go craze taking over the world (myself included), I thought it’d be fun to take a look at WWE Superstars and their Pokémon counterparts. Pokémon Go is invading the WWE Universe too, with WWE HQ being a Pokémon gym and Tyler Breeze and Fandango doing a Youtube segment with them trying the game. This just seemed so apt.

The Superstars and their Pokémon counterparts have been chosen by the mutual characteristics of the wrestlers’ characters and their opposite Pokémon selves. Let the fun begin.

10: Bo Dallas | Psyduck

The ugly duckling

I’ll start off by saying that even though both Bo Dallas and Psyduck are sometimes not the most ineffective at what they do, I’m huge fans of both. Both Bo and Psyduck are a little weird and awkward and trying to find themselves in their respective universes.

Bo is too talented to be jobber in the long run and I’m waiting for him to evolve into a better character, like Psyduck evolved into a powerful Golduck.

9: Kane | Magmar

You can tell they’re related by their foreheads

The parallels can be drawn between Kane and any fire-type Pokemon in general, with the whole aspect of Kane’s hellfire and brimstone in mind. Both Kane and Magmar can be characterized by their fiery camouflage and while Kane like to reside in the depths of hell, Magmars reside near active volcanoes.

8: Randy Orton | Arbok

No brainer

Pairing up Randy Orton with Arbok was a given. Orton’s viper-like qualities are perfectly transmutable to Arbok, who at the heart of it, is a snake Pokémon. Orton slithers towards his opponent when he’s ready to finish them off; in the same way that Arbok finishes off its battles with the final blow.

7: Big Show | Snorlax

We mean the present-day Big Show

What can I saw about the Big Show and Snorlax? Both of them are lumbering giants who are slow to react or move. However, both Show and Snorlax are not to be taken lightly when angered and they hit back and they hit hard.

Although both Big Show and Snorlax are gentle giants, it’s best not to mess with them.

6: Bray Wyatt | Gengar

We’re not sure Wyatt agrees

Bray Wyatt and Gengar are both sort of nocturnal. They’re dark, appear out of nowhere and are both powerful in their own right. The patriarch of the Wyatt family resides in the shadows as does his Pokémon counterpart, not to mention their sinister nature and that both of them have a roundish body type.

5: The Rock | Raichu

The most electrifying....

The reason I paired The Rock with Raichu is because both of them are electrifying. Raichu is the most evolved form of its type and it can be argued that The Rock has also evolved over the years from being just a wrestler to a Hollywood Superstar. While The Rock has electrified WWE fans over the years, Raichu has electrified the Pokémon world for longer.

4: Bayley | Wigglytuff

Instant crush

Bayley just had to be Wigglutuff. They’re both endearing and look like they couldn’t harm a fly, but when the time comes, they both kick some serious ass. Both Bayley and Wigglytuff are the ultimate underdog, and not what you’d expect to be a tough opponent. They make up for that with ability, heart and determination.

3: Shinsuke Nakamura | Hitmonlee

We got some kicks out of this

Shinsuke Nakamura is Hitmonlee personified. Both of them are renowned for their stiff, hard hitting style and no non-sense attitude. What makes them even closer are their famous take-no-prisoners styles of kicking. The King of Strong Style has some of the stiffest kicks in the wrestling world while Hitmonlee is renowned in the Pokémon universe for its variety of kicks and strikes.

2: Brock Lesnar | Machamp

Actually, Brock technically does have 4 arms – each of his guns are twice the normal size

I just want to start this out by pointing out that it’s obvious that Brock Lesnar doesn’t have four arms like Machamp. However, that’s where the dissimilarities end.

Both Brock and Machamp are fighters and powerhouses in their respective field and arguably have a similar body type (not counting the fact that Machamp has four arms). Lesnar is renowned for his power, speed and his suplexes while Machamp is equally powerful, if not more, and has a wide range of suplex like moves.

1: The Shield | Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno

Hounds that can fly!

The Shield are three of the biggest stars in the WWE right now. The trio are one of the most successful factions of all time and the only Pokemon I could compare them to aptly, are the three legendary flying Pokemon from the first generation, Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno.

Like The Shield, each of those three legendary Pokémon bring something different to the table (as they are different types) but are equal amongst themselves and together form the holy trio. Only The Shield could be compared to the legendary flying trio of the Kanto region.
