#5 Rob Van Dam (6 reigns, 211 cumulative days)

R
RVD - Former six-time Intercontinental Champion

There are three men who have all held the Intercontinental Championship six times, so they have been separated by how many cumulative days they have accrued across all title reigns.

Rob Van Dam won his first IC title at Wrestlemania X8, his debut appearance at the showcase of the immortals.

Seemingly destined for main-event stardom, RVD traded the IC belt with Eddie Guerrero in sterling matches before trading the title once more with technical wizard Chris Benoit, resulting in RVD winning his third IC strap in a tremendous match at Summerslam 2002.

However, Van Dam's subsequent main-event run was short-lived and he returned to the IC ranks in 2003, wherein he traded the belt with perennial champion Chris Jericho.

RVD's final reign as IC champ occurred in 2006, when he beat Shelton Benjamin in a Money in the Bank briefcase vs IC title winner take all match, wherein he left the match with the briefcase and belt.

RVD's IC reigns were never particularly long but they were always exciting.

#4 Jeff Jarrett (6 reigns, 290 cumulative days)

Je
Jeff Jarrett - Intercontinental Champion was his highest accolade in WWE

Jeff Jarrett won the Intercontinental title three times in 1995 engaging in memorable feuds and matches with Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels.

In his next run in the company, Jarrett had headliner aspirations and had a supporter on the writing team in his good friend, Vince Russo.

Jarrett was a more serious character when he won the IC strap for a fourth time on May 31, 1995. This win was a tribute to Owen Hart who had died in a tragic accident at the Over The Edge pay-per-view days earlier.

He lost and regained the title to up and coming superstar Edge before he dropped the strap to D'lo Brown.

However, the main event push never occurred. Holding a grudge with Jarrett dating back a decade and believing he lacked the tools to be a credible headliner, WWF Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin nixed a potential feud between the two.

Jarrett was forced to return to the IC ranks where he won a sixth and final title from D'lo Brown at Summerslam before he lost the title on his last night in the company to Chyna, as he followed Russo out of the WWF to WCW, where he achieved his headliner aspirations.

#3 Dolph Ziggler (6 reigns, 369 cumulative days)

Enter
Dolph Ziggler - Was Intercontinental Champion prior to Summerslam 2018

Dolph Ziggler has had a career resurgence somewhat in 2018 as Intercontinental Champion, when he defeated fighting champion, Seth Rollins.

Ziggler dropped the belt back to Rollins after a two-month reign but contested fantastic matches with the Shield member throughout their feud.

Ziggler's first reign as IC Champ came way back in 2010 when he defeated Kofi Kingston for the title. This was the longest reign of the six as Ziggler held the strap for 154 days before he lost Kofi Kingston once more.

Ziggler's second, third and fourth reigns were all very short as he traded the belt with The Miz and Luke Harper throughout the second half of 2014.

Ziggler's fifth title win was undoubtedly his most memorable. Crossing paths once again with The Miz, Ziggler put his career on the line to earn a Championship match with Miz. Ziggler defeated Miz at No Mercy 2016 in a thrilling encounter to preserve his career and win the gold.

Not many wrestlers have wrestled more exciting matches than Ziggler with the IC belt on the line.

# 2 The Miz (8 reigns)

Th
The Miz - 8 time Champion

The Miz has won eight Intercontinental Championships but has a curious relationship with the belt.

Miz has had 8 reigns but his second and fourth title run only lasted one day.

However Miz is much more fondly remembered for his more recent IC runs.

In 2016, Miz reigned as Champion for 188 days, after defeating Zack Ryder, one day after he won the title at Wrestlemania 32. Miz held onto the strap until he finally came up short to Dolph Ziggler with Ziggler's career on the line.

The Miz also memorably defeated Dean Ambrose for the gold on at Extreme Rules 2017 before he dropped the belt to Ambrose's Shield stablemate, Roman Reigns in a heated Raw match on November 20, 2017. Miz would regain the title on the 25th-anniversary edition of Raw in January 2018 before he dropped it to another Shield member, Seth Rollins in one of the best matches at Wrestlemania 34.

Don't count against Miz winning more IC titles in future.

#1 Chris Jericho (9 reigns)

Chris
Chris Jericho - Holds the record for most Intercontinental Championship reigns

No one has won more Intercontinental Championships than Chris Jericho.

The title is synonymous with him and likewise, he is synonymous with it.

The first of Jericho's title victories came way back in December 1999 when he ended the reign of the first and only female IC Champion in history, Chyna after he forced her to submit to the Walls of Jericho.

Jericho traded the belt throughout the year 2000 with Chris Benoit highlighted by a Ladder Match at the 2001 Royal Rumble wherein he won his fourth IC belt.

After a brief period as a headliner and World Champion, Jericho returned to the mid-card and won his fifth title in September 2002.

On October 28, 2003, Jericho won and lost the IC Championship from and to Rob Van Dam on a memorable episode of Raw.

Jericho's final IC Championship reign occurred in 2009, when he defeated Rey Mysterio in an incredible No Holds Barred Match at Extreme Rules. He dropped the title in an even more thrilling Mask vs Hair match at The Bash on June 28.

Perhaps one day Jericho will return to WWE and add a 10th reign to his CV.
