Paul Heyman

Paul Heyman is known by many names – The Walrus, The Paulrus, The Voice of the Voice of the Voiceless and of course ‘The Mad Scientist.’ Over his career Heyman has been the manager of various superstars, guys who have been called ‘Paul Heyman Guys’ ever since.

We take a look at 5 of the greatest Paul Heyman guys ever -

5) Brock Lesnar

The most obvious ‘Paul Heyman guy’. Lesnar debuted in 2002 with the Walrus by his side shouting out instructions into his ear. Heyman guided him as he became the youngest WWE champion ever when he defeated the Rock at Summerslam.

When Lesnar returned to the WWE from the ‘real fighting’ world of the UFC, it didn’t take long for the Walrus to get back to managing ‘The Beast.’ Of course there was an added bonus for Heyman in the deal as he always had Lesnar to help him out of some sticky situations.

4) Rob Van Dam

RVD may not have always been a Paul Heyman guy especially at the start of his career at ECW. However, the men warmed up to each other. Heyman was so impressed by RVD’s match at Hardcore Heaven in 1999 where he defended his ECW World TV title against Jerry Lynn that he aired it on ECW’s TNN debut instead of a planned shoot.

RVD also owns his biggest moment in the WWE to Heyman. In 2006, when he cashed in the Money in the Bank contract and with the ref knocked out and RVD covering Cena, Heyman slid into the ring and made the count.

3) CM Punk

CM Punk owes his career in the WWE to Paul Heyman, something that Punk himself acknowledges. Heyman helped him learn about the production side of the WWE. Heyman rejoined Punk during the ‘Summer of Punk’ storyline as Punk went around demanding respect from the WWE and feuding with Cena,Ryback and the Rock.

This summer, Heyman double-crossed Punk sending Brock Lenar, Curtis Axel and most recently Ryback to punish the man he calls his “prodigal son”. The saga is sure to get even more interesting.

2) UndertakerYes even the dead man has undergone the Heyman treatment. Before joining the WWE, Taker wrestled under the moniker of Mean Mark Callous. His manager at that time was Paul E Dangerously- basically a younger Paul Heyman with a lot more hair on his head and the same irritating voice. However, that partnership went out of the window as the WCW did not renew his contract.

The Texas Rattlesnake was a Paul Heyman guy as well. When Eric Bishoff fired him from WCW after he picked up a major Triceps injury. Heyman pulled him into ECW – starting the ‘Stone Cold’ persona.
