The Undertaker: A Complete Year-By-Year History Of The Deadman At WrestleMania (Part 1)

The Undertaker is synonymous with WrestleMania. His infamous streak lasted 21 years spanning over three decades.

As The Undertaker's return at WrestleMania 34 draws closer, let's take a look at the Undertaker's record at WrestleMania.


WrestleMania VII (1991): Undertaker vs Jimmy Snuka

Undertaker made his WrestleMania debut in 1991, facing WWE legend Jimmy Snuka. Taker beat Snuka to begin his infamous streak that lasted till WrestleMania 30.

WrestleMania VIII (1992) - Undertaker vs Jake 'The Snake' Roberts

When Undertaker's turned babyface after coming to rescue Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth from Jake's steel chair attack, Jake asked Taker one simple question - who's side was Undertaker on.

Undertaker replied, "Not yours."

Jake had a chance to win the match when he hit Undertaker with a DDT but he didn't even try to go for a pin, instead choosing to chase Paul Bearer. Taker recovered and hit Paul Bearer with a Tombstone on the floor to pick up his second WrestleMania win.

WrestleMania IX (1993) - Undertaker vs Giant Gonzalez

In Undertaker’s 3rd WrestleMania match, he faced the lumbering Giant Gonzalez in what is considered to be of Taker’s worst WrestleMania matches.

Before Undertaker lost to Brock Lesnar to end the streak, this was probably the match he came closest to losing. Taker eventually won the match by DQ after Gonzalez used chloroform to knock Taker out.

WrestleMania XI (1995) – Undertaker vs King Kong Bundy

After missing WrestleMania X due to injury, the Deadman was back for 11 to face King Kong Bundy. Although unremarkable inside the ring, one notable thing did happen.

Vince McMahon, who was on commentary, mentioned the Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak for the first time. Undertaker beat Bundy with relative ease to take his streak to four wins in a row.

WrestleMania XII (1996) – Undertaker vs Diesel

Undertaker faced Diesel at WrestleMania 12. This match wasn’t that memorable either. Diesel hit Undertaker with the Jackknife Powerbomb but Taker kicked out. The Deadman then hit Diesel with the Tombstone Piledriver for the 3 count.

WrestleMania XIII (1997) - Undertaker vs Sycho Sid (C)

Undertaker challenged Sycho Sid for the WWF Championship at WrestleMania 13.

The finish for the match saw Bret Hart come out to distract Sid. Bret hit Sid with a stun gun against the top rope. Taker followed it with a Tombstone to end WrestleMania 13 as WWF Champion.

WrestleMania XIV (1998) - Undertaker vs Kane

Undertaker faced his long-lost brother Kane at WrestleMania 14. Kane took Taker to the limit, reversing a Tombstone late in the match to hit one of his own. Undertaker then hit a chokeslam followed by a Tombstone but it wasn't enough to put the 'Big Red Machine' away.

Undertaker then hit Kane with a second Tombstone but Kane kicked out again. The Deadman then hit a third Tombstone to finally beat his brother.

WrestleMania XV (1999) - Undertaker vs Big Boss Man

Undertaker's win over Big Boss Man caused quite a bit of controversy. The ministry were feuding with the Corporation, and Taker faced Boss Man inside Hell In A Cell.

Undertaker beat Big Boss Man with the Tombstone Piledriver. Then, with the help of The Broode, Undertaker hung Bossman with a noose from the Cell.

WrestleMania X-7 (2001) - Undertaker vs Triple H

Undertaker made his first WrestleMania appearance in his American Badass persona at Mania X-7.

Another interesting historical fact is that 'Taker was originally supposed to lose this match. Plans changed with the return of Shawn Michaels and Triple H subsequently being punished, reportedly for bad behavior.

The match itself was one of the best of the night. Taker and HHH battled around the arena. As the match neared its climax, Triple H went to hit Undertaker with a Tombstone of his own. Undertaker reversed it to hit the Tombstone, but the referee was out cold and couldn't make the count. Taker then went to hit the Last Ride but Triple H hit him with the sledgehammer. This only garnered a 2-count.

As Triple H hit the 10-count punches in the corner, Undertaker finally managed to hit the Last Ride for the win.

WrestleMania X-8 (2002) - Undertaker vs Ric Flair

The Deadman faced Ric Flair at WrestleMania 18. The match featured a run-in by Flair's longtime friend Arn Anderson who hit Taker with one of his trademark Spinebuster. Taker kicked out, sending Flair into the ropes.

Undertaker turned his attention to Arn Anderson and Flair jumped him from behind, attacking him with a steel chair. Undertaker took Flair out with a big boot before hitting him with the Tombstone to get his 10th WrestleMania win.

WrestleMania XIX (2003) - Undertaker vs Big Show and A-Train

Undertaker was originally supposed to team up with his protege Nathan Jones, but WWE wrote Jones out of the match with Show and A-Train attacking him backstage during Sunday Night Heat.

Undertaker started the match fending off the two giants. Nathan Jones later came out to even the odds, taking out Big Show with a spin kick at ringside.

Jones then hit A-Train with a big boot and Taker finished him off with a Tombstone.

STREAK: 11 - 0

WrestleMania XX (2004) - Undertaker vs Kane

We end part one with a look at Undertaker's second WrestleMania match against his brother Kane. Both Undertaker and Kane were at the top of their game in Madison Square Garden.

Both men hit each other with everything they had. Kane chokeslammed Undertaker but couldn't put him away. In true Taker fashion, the Deadman came back to hit Kane with a Tombstone to pin him.
