Top 10 Moments of The nWo

The New World Order is quite possibly the biggest revolutionary faction in the history of Professional Wrestling and ever since the group's groundbreaking inception on 7th July, 1996, there hasn't been any shortage of memorable moments provided by The nWo.

The nWo was the sole reason why WCW, during the Attitude Era, was sitting at the top of helm as the biggest Pro Wrestling company at that point of time and for well over 80 straight weeks, WCW had dominated the WWF in the Monday Night Wars.

Throughout the years, nWo had given some of the most legendary moments and it all began when the two outsiders in the form of Scott Hall and Kevin Nash were joined by the ultimate wrestling hero, Hulk Hogan, who had decided to turn his back on the entire industry by aligning himself with the villainous nWo.

With Hogan, Nash, and Hall recently announcing a nWo Reunion- 2 Sweet Tour, it'll be fair for us to look back at The New World Order's 10 best memorable moments.

#10 Kevin Nash reforms the nWo in WWE

HBK surprisingly joined forces with the nWo

Following Hulk Hogan's departure from the nWo in 2002, right after his Icon vs Icon match against The Rock at WrestleMania X8, The Hulkster found himself across the ring with his former nWo stablemates, as Scott Hall and Kevin Nash ignited an intense rivalry against the former WCW World Champion.

Shortly afterward, Hall and Nash decided to bring in former nWo member X-Pac into the faction, as the two originators started rebuilding the New World Order in the WWE. Within a few short weeks, the nWo had finally started to put all the pieces in place as former member Big Show once again joined the ranks.

However, following Scott Hall's release from the WWE due to personal reasons, his other half Kevin Nash was seemingly in a desperate need for another top gun who was capable enough of leading the nWo from the front. And much to everyone's surprise, Nash then decided to bring in former D-Generation X OG and his former Two Dudes with Attitude tag partner, Shawn Michaels.

Now with the likes of HBK, Nash, X-Pac, Big Show, and Booker T all sporting the black and white, this nWo reunion in the WWE was definitely a feel-good moment for all hardcore nWo fans, despite the fact that this version of the group did not last too long.

#9 Sting launches his first attack on the nWo

At WCW: Uncensored in 1997, the nWo came out victorious in a triangle elimination match also featuring Team Piper and Team WCW and following a triumphant win in the main event, the nWo was busy celebrating their success, as their biggest adversary, Sting rappelled down to the ring from out of nowhere in what remains as one of the iconic returns in Professional Wrestling history.

nWo's Scott Hall and Kevin Nash eventually approached Sting in the ring, as he launched a gruesome beatdown on The Outsiders with his baseball bat, which was then followed up by a beating on Randy Savage, who also tried to intervene as well.

After delivering Scorpion Death Drops to all three members of the nWo, Sting then called for the leader Hulk Hogan, as The Hulkster eventually made his way to the ring, only to be promptly taken out by Sting as well. Sting's actions very well solidified his place as WCW's top babyface and simultaneously also made his the nWo's biggest arch-rival.

#8 Goldberg beats Hogan for the WCW World Championship

By 1998, the WWF had seized full control of the Monday Night Wars all thanks to their top star in the form of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and his heated, iconic rivalry against company chairman Vince McMahon.

With a strong mid-card featuring the likes of The Rock and Triple H, WWF was pretty much dominating the WCW, who on the other hand, were struggling to keep up after the nWo had dominated the company for two straight years.

By this point, almost every single big superstar in WCW was a part of the nWo, expect one certain man known as Bill Goldberg!

With WWF dominating the WCW and The Monday Night Wars, WCW's only hope at that point of time was Bill Goldberg, as he started what was an intense rivalry against the nWo's dominance.

Since making his debut for WCW, Goldberg's rise to the top was nothing short of spectacular, as he quickly cemented his place as one of the all-time greats to ever grace the squared circle, having compiled an undefeated streak of 173 matches in WCW.

However, it wasn't until 1998, when Goldberg first won the WCW World Championship, when he first defeated nWo member Scott Hall, then followed it up with an iconic win over Hulk Hogan to capture the big gold belt, in front of 40,000 in attendance on an episode on Nitro.

#7 The nWo mocks the Four Horsemen with a mean parody

In 1997, WWE Hall of Famer Arn Anderson announced his retirement from Professional Wrestling due to a bad neck injury on an episode of Nitro, where he was accompanied by his fellow Four Horsemen stablemates. The very next week, the notorious nWo did what they always do best and decided to mock Anderson's emotional retirement and created one of the most iconic parodies in Pro Wrestling, which was nothing short of mean.

With X-Pac portraying the role of Ric Flair, Buff Bagwell came out as Curt Hennig, meanwhile, Konnan decided to play the role of Mongo. But, the funniest and yet the most controversial role of the night was portrayed by Kevin Nash who did the impression of Arn Anderson.

#6 The nWo Wolfpac is born

After dominating the WCW for a solid amount of time period in the Monday Night Wars, the dissension and signs of tension finally began to showcase between prominent nWo members in the form of Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, Randy Savage, and leader Hulk Hogan. The differences between the members of the faction was becoming more apparent day-by-day as Nash and Savage started to realize that leader Hulk Hogan was only in the nWo for his own benefits.

With Hogan, Hall, and Savage all in contention to become the World Heavyweight Champion, the cracks within the nWo were visible as daylight and with Hogan obviously becoming the WCW World Champion for the fourth time, it was finally down to the rest of the members to choose a side in the on-going nWo Civil War.

On the 4th of May, on an episode of Nitro, Randy Savage along with Kevin Nash, and Konnan showed up with black shirts with a red nWo logo on it, as the entire Pro Wrestling world witnessed the birth of the nWo Wolfpac!

Shortly afterwards, the Wolpac started growing in numbers as the likes of Miss Elizabeth, Curt Hennig, Dusty Rhodes, and Rick Rude all joined the red and black and even at one point, the legendary Sting also started sporting the red and black of the nWo as well.

#5 DDP fakes joining the nWo

Much like Sting and Goldberg, former WCW World Champion Diamond Dallas Page was also another prominent superstar who was at war with the nWo and the group's message was seemingly loud and clear, you're either with the nWo or you're against them.

However, as far as Diamond Dallas Page was concerned, he decided to choose the hard way. By 1997, the nWo had already grown in huge numbers as the likes of Hogan, Nash, Hall, Savage, Ms Elizabeth, Masahiro Chono, Scott Norton, The Giant, and Ted Dibiase were all representing the black and white.

On 13th January 1997, DDP was involved in an in-ring confrontation with The Outsiders who offered Page with a nWo shirt and asked him to join the group and just when it seemed like DDP had eventually sided with The New World Order, out of nowhere, Scott Hall fell victim to a wicked Diamond Cutter, as DDP made his exit through the crowd and got a hero's reception, whereas, Kevin Nash "tripped" himself and fell face first on the floor.

#4 Icon vs Icon

In what initially seemed like a match people thought they'd never see actually went down at WrestleMania X8, when two of the biggest icons in Professional Wrestling history went toe-to-toe with each other at The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Prior to Hollywood Hogan's return to the WWE in 2002, The Hulkster had already established himself as one of the biggest superstars in the Professional Wrestling industry and with the backup of The New World Order, Hogan was a man possessed.

Similarly, The Rock, who on the other hand, transitioned from one of WWE's promising mid-carders' and eventually established himself as the company's top superstar alongside 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin.

At WrestleMania X8, The Rock finally stepped foot into the ring for the very first time against Hulk Hogan and as expected, the two men went on to put together an absolute instant classic with The People's Champion coming out on top as the victor.

#3 The nWo returns home

The NWO coincidentally returns at No Way Out

After an absence of almost six years, in 2002, at the No Way Out pay-per-view, The New World Order finally made their much-awaited return to the WWF, as Hogan, Nash, and Hall were brought into the promotion by Chairman Vince McMahon who was poised to inject the WWF with a lethal dose of poison.

In McMahon's war against kayfabe WWF co-owner Ric Flair, the former decided to bring in the nWo as hired mercenaries and wanted them to "kill" the WWF, just so McMahon could remain as the sole owner of the WWF.

Despite the nWo's run in the WWF being short-lived, their return to the company remains as one of the most memorable returns of all time.

#2 nWo and DX finally go to war

The NWO and DX stand across face-to-face

During the Monday Night Wars, the nWo was the sole reason why WCW was constantly beating the WWF in terms of ratings and in response to WCW's nWo, Vince McMahon and the WWF decided to come up with their own faction, the iconic D-Generation X.

Both DX and nWo were always known for their notoriety and with the two groups being employed by two different promotions, fans never actually had the chance of witnessing nWo and DX square-off in a Pro Wrestling ring.

However, all of that finally changed at WrestleMania 31, yes after all these decades, the nWo and the DX finally met face-to-face with each other in 2015 when Sting and D-Generation X co-leader Triple H went toe-to-toe in what was Sting's first match in the WWE.

With the D-Generation X outnumbering Sting, his biggest adversaries from WCW, The New World Order surprisingly showed up to a huge reception at Levi's Stadium as we finally witnessed two of the biggest factions collide on the biggest stage possible.

#1 The Formation

During his tenure with the WWF, Hulk Hogan rose to stardom within no time and became quite possibly the biggest face in Professional Wrestling history at that point of time and was arguably the most well-liked superstar in Pro Wrestling.

However, on July 7, 1996, at Bash at the Beach, Hulk Hogan pulled-off the biggest surprise in Pro Wrestling history and what till date remains as the most shocking moment in Professional Wrestling.

The Outsiders, who were scheduled to face-off against Randy Savage, Sting, and Lex Luger, came into the contest claiming that they had a third man in their ranks who was seemingly going to even the odds out.

Early on in the match, Hogan and Nash took out Luger and even things up and that's when Hulk Hogan, the face of WCW, the man who solidified his place as the company's top babyface, came out to the ring and decided to Leg Drop Randy Savage of all people, leaving the crowd in a shocking state of mind.

Shortly afterwards, not only were the fans in the arena were left stunned but the entire Pro Wrestling fanbase in general witnessed something historic and groundbreaking, as The Outsiders revealed that their third man was non-other than Hulk Hogan. Yes, the biggest babyface in Professional Wrestling history had decided to turn his back on all his fans, as we witnessed the birth of the revolutionary New World Order.
