5 Former WWE Superstars to watch out for in AEW

Will Dean Ambrose be among them?
Will Dean Ambrose be among them?

Ever since AEW announced their arrival to the world at the very start of 2019, it's been the question on everyone's lips. "Who will we see?" And in a lot of cases, "Will we see any WWE Superstars in All Elite Wrestling?"

Well, it looks like it. And no less than five of them at the least.

AEW changed the landscape of wrestling immediately, not only by announcing former WWE Superstars as part of their roster from the get-go - but with several WWE Superstars reportedly becoming unhappy with their respective roles within the company, requesting releases, turning down contracts and running down contracts - all before All Elite Wrestling's first show even takes place.

With the success of ALL IN being followed by the formation of All Elite Wrestling, some of WWE's underutilised stars seem to be looking over the fence to see some greener grass on the other side, and it looks like some are willing to jump to find out.

So, what familiar faces from WWE will we be seeing in AEW come May 25th or beyond? Well, here are five names to look out for.

#5. Dean Ambrose

Okay, let's start with the one man who's not yet confirmed to be in AEW - the solitary name on this list that All Elite Wrestling have not confirmed to be part of their promotion.

It would appear that, given the events that have unfolded, AEW will be the most likely destination for Ambrose, now named Jon Moxley, but he slots in at number five just in case it isn't - but let's look at what's happened...

Former WWE Champion Dean Ambrose confirmed back in January that he wouldn't be renewing his contract with the company when it expired in April.

Throughout his WWE career, Ambrose was very quiet on the social media front, only having a Twitter account with, "They made me get this" as the bio and no tweets... Until this.

Dean Ambrose switched his Twitter name to Jon Moxley, his old moniker, and released this video clip of himself escaping from what looks like a prison cell - possibly a moniker for him leaving WWE to have more freedom over his character?

At the end of the video, Ambrose walks past graffiti with dice showing a two and a five, possibly signifying the 25th of May, when Double or Nothing takes place.

Could we see Ambrose/Moxley in AEW? I'll leave that one for you to decide, but on the following four pages four names who we will definitely see - and they're all former WWE Superstars that you can keep an eye out forin All Elite Wrestling!

#4. Neville

Well, he was one of the very first names confirmed for All Elite Wrestling's roster at their initial press conference, and he's involved in the very first match announced for Double or Nothing, too.

Former WWE Cruiserweight Champion Neville - now known simply as Pac, a moniker he used before WWE - will face off against Adam Hangman Page at Double or Nothing on May 25th.

Neville was signed to the WWE in July 2012 where he would perform under the moniker of Adrian Neville, becoming one of NXT's top stars before debuting on the WWE RAW roster.

After a few months in creative limbo, Neville would be positioned as the King of the Cruiserweights, dominating 205 Live as Champion in 2016 - but the former NXT Champion would promptly disappear, being pulled from a match against then Cruiserweight Champion Enzo Amore, and being replaced by Kalisto with almost no explanation.

The WWE Universe was kept in the dark regarding Neville's status with WWE, he was finally granted his release from the company in August.

#3. Goldust

Now to the most recent man to switch from WWE to AEW... Goldust!

Earlier this year, it had been rumoured that Goldust had requested his release from WWE and would be heading to AEW, but actual reports were scarce on the matter. Then reports emerged that he would, in fact, be out of contract soon, but again, nothing concrete came of it.

While it was said that Goldust was recovering from a double surgery on his knees, the veteran would be confirmed for Double or Nothing almost out of nowhere.

Goldust's wrestling career spans 30 years, a lot of which was spent in WWE, but Rhodes also spent time in WCW and TNA. In WWE, though, the 49-year-old was a three-time Intercontinental Champion and nine-time Tag Team Champion, with three Tag Team title reigns, too.

Goldust will face off against real-life brother Cody at Double or Nothing, performing under the name Dustin.

#2. Cody Rhodes

Who could forget?
Who could forget?

And of course, the main man. AEW wouldn't exist if it weren't for Cody, and the legacy he's leaving by now may leave many fans even forgetting he was a part of WWE!

At only 33 years old, Cody has seen it all. Having left WWE three years ago, Rhodes has wrestled around the world before staging the 10,000 capacity ALL IN alongside The Young Bucks, and subsequently starting his own promotion - but that's a far cry from the Cody we know of from WWE.

Stardust!

While Cody Rhodes was undoubtedly an incredibly versatile performer in WWE, whether it be as the Dashing Cody Rhodes or Stardust, there's even less doubt that the former Intercontinental Champion is now in his prime, unless he can go up the gears once more in AEW!

Rhodes is currently signed to a five-year deal with All Elite Wrestling, where he's not only an on-air talent, but also an Executive Vice President.

#1 Chris Jericho

Jericho was previously Mr WWE!
Jericho was previously Mr WWE!

Well, Chris Jericho has been wrestling for just shy of three decades, but the master of reinvention is still at the very top of his game and one of wrestling's most exciting characters.

Like Neville, Chris Jericho was unveiled by AEW almost right from the get-go, 'headlining' their initial press conference. Until 2018, Jericho hadn't wrestled outwith WWE in 19 years, but the man formerly known as Y2J has officially signed a three-year contract with AEW, and it really was met with grandeur.

In fact, we recently caught up with Chris Jericho, and he told us all about what we can expect from AEW, what advice he'd give to other WWE Superstars looking to make their way in the comany, and why he didn't re-sign for WWE. You can read all about it here.

But will Chris Jericho be only one of five former WWE Superstars to make the switch to AEW, or will more follow? Only time will tell.
