For the past few years NXT has provided the WWE fans with a more niche product, something the hardcore fans have been clamouring about for years in WWE. The term wrestlers is considered taboo, and Vince McMahon has always made it a point to call the performers superstars, and the WWE a sports entertainment company.

When Triple H took over NXT, he understand that there was a dearth of quality wrestling in the organisation, and ardent wrestling fans had been turning to promotions like Ring of Honor and NJPW. Triple H understood that WWE hasn't been able to tap into that reserve of the fan base.

With NXT he envisioned a new brand that focused more on the quality of wrestling than on promos and segments, this has made NXT the home of some of the best wrestlers on the planet.

Here are 5 of the best superstars on WWE's developmental brand.

#5 Candice LeRae

There are very few female stars who would be willing to take a pile-driver from their male counterparts, or get hit with a chair to the head. For years Candice has worked hard to break the gender stereotypes in the wrestling business, and had been one of the best female wrestlers on the independent circuit.

Before signing up with WWE, Candice was a hot commodity in the business, and when she eventually competed in the first-ever Mae Young Classic, she showed the WWE Universe why she belongs in the organisation.

Candice has also been booked to truly showcase her exemplary in-ring talent. It won't be long before the superstar finds herself competing for the NXT women's title, and eventually prove to the WWE Universe that she is indeed one of the best women's wrestlers of this generation

#4 Adam Cole

For years the WWE Universe yearned to see the former ROH World Champion, and their wishes finally came true last year when Cole signed a developmental contract with WWE, making his debut on NXT by beating up Drew McIntyre.

Adam Cole competed on the independent scene for nearly a decade, winning numerous world titles in multiple organisations, and finally signing up with WWE in 2017, immediately aligning himself with Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish.

Cole is considered by many to be one of the best performers of this generation, and became the inaugural NXT North American Champion at NXT Takeover: New Orleans earlier this year, in less than a year since his debut. Cole has become one of the best workers on NXT, and is expected to achieve big things in the company once he gets promoted to the main roster.

When Triple H began his audacious journey to bring some of the best wrestlers on the planet under one roof, he had his sights on Roderick Strong. After competing on the indie circuit for over a decade, Strong finally signed a developmental deal with WWE in 2016.

He made his NXT debut as Austin Aries' tag team partner during the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament. Strong is a former ROH and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla world champion. After unsuccessfully challenging Roode and Drew McIntyre for the NXT title, he joined forces with Kyle O'Reilly and Fish to become a part of The Undisputed Era stable.

Strong is already a two-time NXT tag team champion, and having put on some of the most memorable matches on the brand, the future looks bright for the current tag team champ.

There have been very few stars on NXT that have been able to play the role of bad guy with as much conviction as Ciampa. The ruthlessness Ciampa has exhibited has made the current NXT champion one of the most despised individuals in the industry.

It has been a long road for the champion to get to where he is today. Ciampa had previously signed a developmental contract with the WWE over a decade ago, however Ciampa was released from his contract within two years.

Ciampa has been one of the most consistent performers on the developmental brand, and has successfully worked his way to the top, winning the NXT title from Aleister Black. Tommaso has impressed the fans with his work ethic, and could soon become a top heel on the main roster.

#1 Aleister Black

The dark persona of Aleister black was bound to bring the best out of the superstar, accentuating his strengths in the ring. Last year Aleister competed in numerous memorable matches against superstars like Velveteen Dream and Hideo Itami.

The Dutch Destroyer was able to win the NXT title this year, defeating Andrade 'Cien' Almas. Black did not have a long run with the NXT title, dropping the title to Tommaso Ciampa.

Aleister Black competed on the independent scene for over a decade before signing with the WWE. He has proven that he has what it takes to become a major player in the organisation. The best is yet to come from Black, the superstar has a bright future ahead of him in the company.
