Opinion: What does Dean Ambrose leaving mean for WWE?

In case you missed the news, WWE has announced that Dean Ambrose will not re-sign with the company after his contract expires in April. The question now is what impact will Ambrose leaving have on the company and what will his legacy be?

Ambrose is a former WWE World Heavyweight Champion, a 3-time Intercontinental Champion, a United States Champion, a 2-time Tag Team Champion, and former Money in the Bank winner. However, arguably his biggest accolade is being 1/3 of one of the greatest factions in WWE history, The Shield.

Ambrose leaving WWE will have a moderate impact in my opinion. While he never fully lived up to his potential, he was still a quality performer and has had many memorable moments from his debut with The Shield to winning Money in the Bank and the World Title to his heel turn last year. So, while he will definitely be missed, he certainly isn't irreplaceable.

As for his legacy, I feel like Ambrose will be remembered more for his Shield texture than his singles run. While he and The Shield have had many memorable moments, Ambrose hasn't had many memorable moments as a singles competitor.

Aside from his feud with Seth Rollins after The Shield breakup, he really didn't have that one feud that you will remember 10 or 15 years from now. There was potential in some of those feuds like his one with Brock Lesnar and Triple H, but they always fell short of expectations.

Ambrose is such a private person that no one really knows what his next move will be, but it will be interesting to see what he does. It will also be interesting to see the ramifications this will have on Renee Young and if she might leave WWE down the road as well.
