WrestleMania has some unforgettable moments

WrestleMania 35 may be here, but over the past 34 WrestleManias, there have been various matches which have made an impact in the psyche of WWE fans which cannot be fathomed. Some matches saw WWE legends retire as the fans bade them a tearful goodbye, while other matches saw long-heated rivalries come to a conclusion.

Some matches saw WWE Superstars willing to put everything on the line to prove their point, while others saw streaks broken as legends shattered in the face of passing time.

Whatever be the case, all these matches have one thing in common, and that is they were memorable. They were memorable to the fans, and they were memorable to the wrestling legends who participated in them. In this article, we are going to talk about the 5 most unforgettable WrestleMania matches of all time.

#5 Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker WrestleMania XXVI

WrestleMania XXVI: Shawn Michaels vs The Undertaker

The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels put everything on the line for a second opportunity at the Phenom. The Dead Man of WWE had been reigning supreme for years on end at WrestleMania. It was indeed his yard. His victims had come and gone. They had challenged him, but now they all had one thing in common – they were resting in peace.

Shawn Michaels wanted to be the one to break the streak. The previous year, he had come close; he had come closer than anyone before him had dared to. But in the end, he had made one mistake and the Dead Man had taken advantage of that and pinned him. This time he had to put his career on the line, and he had to sink to depths he had never sunk before as he had cost The Undertaker the World Heavyweight Championship a month back. So it was Career vs Streak at WrestleMania XXVI, and when the time came, Shawn Michaels tried his best again.

He pushed the Dead Man again, but yet again met the same fate. Only, this time his career had been on the line and it was now over.

The Dead Man retired Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania as he pinned him after a Tombstone.

#4 Brock Lesnar vs The Undertaker

The Undertaker is a legend at WrestleMania for a good reason.

21 times he faced an opponent and 21 times he won. There seemed that there was not a single superstar at WWE who could go the distance with him and defeat him. But, when the time came, he faced Brock Lesnar. The Beast Incarnate Brock Lesnar was more than a match for him.

The Undertaker got a concussion early in the match accidentally and it was one of his worst performances at WrestleMania till that point. When the time came for Brock Lesnar to hit his F5, he hit it and The Undertaker could not raise his shoulder. It was the moment that the world stood still as the WWE Universe looked on while their Dead Man lay there, for the first time in WrestleMania, resting in peace.

Lesnar had broken the streak.

#3 Roman Reigns vs Brock Lesnar vs Seth Rollins

Roman Reigns has faced Brock Lesnar twice at WrestleMania – once at WrestleMania 31 and once at WrestleMania 34. In the second instance, he was unsuccessful, and the first occasion was no different either.

The one thing that was different, was halfway through the match when Lesnar had just finished tossing Roman all over the place, a man appeared down the entrance ramp as his entrance music played. Seth Rollins was there with the Money in the Bank briefcase in his hand. He was there to cash in the briefcase and take what he felt he deserved. The two men were already half exhausted from their match when Seth Rollins cashed it in. It became a Triple Threat, and Rollins put on a show which cannot be forgotten.

He took out Lesnar, and inside the ring then curb stomped Roman Reigns, his former shield brother, to pick up the win and the WWE Championship. This began his reign as the WWE Champion, one of his most successful runs in WWE to-date.

This was also the first time that anyone cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase at WrestleMania.

#2 John Cena vs The Rock

The Rock and John Cena created history
The Rock and John Cena created history

John Cena and The Rock are synonymous with great matches at WrestleMania. Both men have delivered everything in their prime. However, this was the match that no one had seen coming, as The Rock had left WWE just as John Cena had come in. But when The Rock turned back up in WWE and challenged Cena to a match at WrestleMania one year in advance, it was the match that everyone could not wait to see.

John Cena faced The Rock, and to him, everything was on the line. He had put his heart and soul into the build-up of this match and he could not wait for it to take place so that he could show the WWE Universe that he was better than The Rock once and for all. The Rock had nothing to lose. He had already retired and he had moved into Hollywood. To him, this match was about proving Cena wrong.

When the match took place, the audience was split down the middle as half of them supported The Rock and half of them supported Cena. It was the match that would take place once in a lifetime (or so WWE told us. It would actually take place again next year.). The Rock beat Cena when Cena tried to take him out with The Rock’s own move. He had gotten too cocky, and The Rock had taken advantage of that. The image of Cena sitting on the WrestleMania ramp looking devastated after his loss would be one that would be etched into the mind of every WWE fan. It was the lowest point of Cena’s career.

#1 Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair

WrestleMania XXIV: Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair
WrestleMania XXIV: Shawn Michaels vs Ric Flair

Shawn Michaels is one of the best wrestlers to ever perform in WrestleMania history. He is after all known as Mr. WrestleMania. So the time came that Ric Flair’s career was on the line, and WWE Universe knew that it was time for the Nature Boy to put up his boots once and for all. There was only one opponent who could face Ric Flair at such time, and it was the Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels.

Shawn put on a show for Ric, selling his chops, selling all his moves as he had never done before. He gave Ric the send-off that only he could manage, and it was a show-stopping match.

When it was time that Shawn would hit the finishing move on Ric as the WWE Universe looked on with tears in their eyes, both men shared their emotion. Ric got up and he was urging Shawn on to hit him with the Superkick. Shawn just looked at him, and as the tears flowed down, he mouthed the words, “I am sorry. I love you.”

He then hit Sweet Chin Music, and Rick fell, Shawn pinned him, and just like that, the Nature Boy’s glorious career was over. Michaels hugged Nature Boy for simply a moment after the pin, and without being able to stay in the ring for one more second, immediately left, not even looking up or celebrating his win.

It was not a happy moment. It simply was a moment.

Ric Flair got up, looked around him, and bade his fans a goodbye.
