Could The Man come back at WrestleMania Backlash?

WrestleMania Backlash, WWE's first post-WrestleMania 37 pay-per-view, is all set to take place this Sunday on May 16, 2021, live from the WWE ThunderDome. The card has some really amazing matches scheduled, many of which could be potential match-of-the-year candidates.

A total of five titles will be on the line at WrestleMania Backlash, as per the card announced so far. WWE might add another match or two to the card on the go-home SmackDown episode later this week. To shake things up on both the brands, the company could be planning a number of returns this Sunday.

In this article, let's take a look at five WWE Superstars who could make their return at WrestleMania Backlash. Be sure to comment down and let us know which of them would you like to see come back.

#5 Aleister Black could make his in-ring return at WrestleMania Backlash

Former NXT Champion Aleister Black was looking to be in for a mega push on the main roster when he was not pinned for over a year after getting called up from NXT. However, things started going downhill for him after WrestleMania 36 last year and soon speculations started about Vince McMahon giving up on him.

Things became even worse when he was not drafted to any brand in the 2020 WWE Draft and later, the company released his wife and former superstar, Zelina Vega. There were no signs of Black on TV for months and fans started wondering whether he was done with the promotion.

After an absence of around six months, WWE has finally started to air vignettes and promo videos of Aleister Black after WrestleMania 37. There are significant changes to his gimmick and the promos so far have been really intriguing.

WrestleMania Backlash could be the stage where Aleister Black finally makes his in-ring return. There are multiple directions WWE could go with this. If WWE plans to make him come back as a face, he might even confront Roman Reigns following his match at WrestleMania Backlash.

#4 Keith Lee could return at WrestleMania Backlash

Another major return that could happen at WrestleMania Backlash is that of former NXT Champion Keith Lee. Having impressed the fans during his NXT run, Lee got his main roster call-up after last year's SummerSlam and joined the roster of Monday Night RAW.

Unfortunately, things haven't been that great for The Limitless One on the Red brand. Fans weren't happy with WWE changing his theme song and look upon his main roster call-up. While he was pushed straight into the WWE Championship scene competing against the likes of Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton, the company didn't go all the way with him.

Reportedly, there were plans for Keith Lee to win the United States Championship at WWE Elimination Chamber 2021 earlier this year, but he missed out on the event due to an injury. Lee has since been missing from WWE TV but he recently shared a tweet, possibly teasing a return.

Keith Lee's return might happen as early as this Sunday's WrestleMania Backlash. We might just see him confront Universal Champion Roman Reigns following his match at WrestleMania Backlash, provided he successfully defends his title.

Lee's real-life partner Mia Yim is rumored to debut on SmackDown this week and as a result, he could also move over to the Blue brand and possibly start a feud against Reigns. The two do have some history dating back to WWE Survivor Series 2019 where Lee almost defeated Reigns to win it all for Team NXT.

#3 The Fiend could return at WrestleMania Backlash to reveal his next target

The WWE Championship will be on the line at WrestleMania Backlash as Bobby Lashley will defend his title in a triple threat match against Braun Strowman and Drew McIntyre. This is one of those matches on the card where it's tough to call anyone a clear favorite.

There could be multiple possible finishes to the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania Backlash. One of the interesting ones could see the return of "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt, who could attack the winner of this match and set up a WWE title feud.

The Fiend was last seen at WrestleMania 37 where he returned to his original avatar from the melted one. He took on Randy Orton in a singles match that saw a massive surprise as Alexa Bliss cost The Fiend his match. Many expected a feud between Wyatt and Bliss following WrestleMania 37 but WWE didn't go down that path.

Now, Bray Wyatt or The Fiend haven't appeared on RAW in the last few weeks and WrestleMania Backlash could be the place where the latter returns and targets the WWE Champion.

#2 Nikki Cross could return to WWE TV at WrestleMania Backlash

WrestleMania Backlash could see a massive return from Monday Night RAW and an incredible twist in one of the storylines. After betraying The Fiend at WrestleMania 37, Alexa Bliss has taken her eerie character to another level with the introduction of her "friend" - a creepy-looking doll called Lilly.

Bliss has delivered multiple cryptic and bizarre promos and segments in the last few weeks, teasing that she and Lilly are coming after a certain WWE Superstar. This past week on Monday Night RAW, the two even made their presence felt on the stage during the six-woman tag team match as Charlotte Flair, Nia Jax, and Shayna Baszler took on the team of Asuka, Mandy Rose, and Dana Brooke.

Ever since the introduction of Lilly, fans have speculated it to be some sort of an alter-ego of Alexa Bliss, even comparing her to The Fiend. The general expectations are that Bliss could ultimately debut a new look, inspired by Lilly. However, there could be a massive twist in the tale at WrestleMania Backlash if Nikki Cross returns and is revealed to be the human incarnation of Lilly.

Bliss and Cross have a lot of history together, having won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships twice. The two could dominate the women's division together after Wrestlemania Backlash and there a lot of directions WWE could take this angle to. The two could even attack the RAW Women's Champion at the pay-per-view.

#1 Becky Lynch could make her grand return at WrestleMania Backlash

One of the biggest possible returns that could happen at WrestleMania Backlash this Sunday is that of Becky Lynch. The former RAW and SmackDown Women's Champion has been out of action for over a year now due to her pregnancy. She gave birth to her and Seth Rollins' first child in December 2020 and fans have since been waiting to see her back in action.

There were reports of WWE planning her return at WrestleMania 37 last month with her interrupting Bayley's talk show during the two-night extravaganza. However, nothing as such happened and fans are still eagerly waiting for the return of The Man.

WrestleMania Backlash is set to feature SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair defending her title against Bayley. It is unlikely that Belair will lose the title in her first major defense. Following the match, Bayley may unleash a beat down on The EST of WWE. This could be where Becky Lynch finally makes her return to WWE to save Belair, setting up a feud against The Role Model.

Ahead of WrestleMania Backlash, Bayley spoke to Sportskeeda's Rick Ucchino and reacted to the rumors about Becky Lynch's return. She also claimed that she's expecting a singles rivalry between the two once Lynch returns. You can check out the entire conversation between Bayley and Rick here.

If this is the route that WWE takes at WrestleMania Backlash, we could see a Bayley vs. Becky Lynch rivalry after the pay-per-view. Ultimately, it could lead to Lynch challenging for the SmackDown Women's Championship at SummerSlam 2021.
