List of wrestlers who were on television shows that you may have missed

We may get to see a lot of our favourite wrestlers on Monday, Tuesdays or almost any other day of the week on television (depending on how you watch wrestling).

Sometimes we are treated to an appearance on a television show when wrestlers often branch out into action of some sort.

Wrestlers like Batista, the Rock, Ronda Rousey and John Cena are huge stars now, so they've already made a niche in the movie industry.

Sometimes the wrestler's appearance on a show is directly linked to promotion with the WWE while other times, it is independent of the promotion.

The relationship between wrestling and tv/film has been around for decades and it will probably continue as long as money is there to be made on both sides.

This list won't include superstars with their own shows (Total Divas/Bellas, the Rock on Ballers, Miz and Mrs.) or appearances on talk shows or those like SNL. It also doesn't include ones hosted by wrestlers like John Cena's American Grit or the Rock's forthcoming Titan Games.

These appearances were on scripted television within the last decade, except for one. It involves a wrestler currently competing on an island.

#7 Edge on "Flash" and Vikings

Edge played supervillain 'Atom Smasher' on an episode of The Flash.

If you are a comic-book nerd like myself, you might have caught everyone's favorite 'Ultimate Opportunist' when he appeared on the first episode of the second season of the CW show the Flash's second season in 2015.

Barry Allen (played by Grant Gustin) encountered a meta-human played by Edge named Atom Smasher. The main villain of season 2, Zoom, was bringing villains from Earth-2 to our version of Earth on which the Flash is stationed. I know, time travel/dimensional travelling can often be confusing and tiresome.

Needless to say, he played a supervillain (the other earth had different versions of the characters on the Barry's Earth).

Edge also had a recurring role on the History series Vikings.

The name of the show is a self-explanatory-a group of Vikings live, raid, battle and try to live together in medieval Europe.

You can catch Edge on the last season of "Vikings" and on the season returning later this month.

I always thought that Edge sort of had the look of a Viking, but just needed a beard to complete the look.

On the show, he's been playing a member of a small band of Vikings who left their homeland to start a new settlement in a strange new place. It might be Iceland or Greenland or even an island off the coast of Canada or the northern US.

He'll still be part of the cast when the show returns on November 28 at 9 on History Channel.

#6 Cody Rhodes on "Arrow"

Cody Rhodes formed a friendship with actor Stephen Amell after Amell and Neville faced Rhodes and Wade Barrett in a match at Summerslam 2015.

The whole idea was that Neville was sort of seen as a superhero with the feats of athleticism he was able to perform.

Cody, in his Stardust persona, played the supervillain in the feud which culminated in a match with Amell and Neville.

Due to the friendship, Rhodes has appeared on two different seasons of CW's Arrow show. The first time was a few years ago and now he is a recurring character on the current season.

Rhodes played a supervillain named Derek Sampson who was peddling drugs in the hometown of Amell's character, Oliver Queen. The drug gave Sampson super strength and an aversion to pain but it was killing many others who took it.

Amell also appeared at Rhodes' All In show this past September.

#5 John Cena in "Psych" and Charlotte Flair in "Psych: The Movie"

On Psych, Cena played secret agent Ewan O'Hara, the brother of Juliet O'Hara who just happened to be the love interest of main character James Roday.

He was a part of earlier seasons and reprised his role at the end of 2017's Psych: the Movie. He was on the run and was hoping Roday and Dule Hill's characters would relocate with him.

Joining Cena in the movie on the USA network, the same network that currently airs Raw was Charlotte Flair.

Flair's character was that of Heather Rockrear, the hired muscle by the villain of the movie. She had a few scenes of kicking Roday's butt, so I'm sure that was appealing to her.

I'm sure her name was a play on the sexist names of the Bond girls in the James Bond movies. Or it could have just been Roday being Roday.

#4 Multiple superstars on "GLOW"

Riley jumped at the chance to be a part of a show about wrestling.
Riley jumped at the chance to be a part of a show about wrestling.

Of course, a show about wrestling is going to have some cameos by wrestlers.

While I personally haven't watched it yet, I was fully aware of the show and to expect many cameos or recurring roles from pro wrestlers.

Brooke Hogan, John Morrison, Frankie Kazarian, Christopher Daniels, Kharma, Alex Riley, Carlito and Brodus Clay all have had roles on the Netflix show GLOW.

The program is a remake of the '80s show Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, or GLOW for short. It's about women trying to make it in the glorious world of professional wrestling. WWE Legend Ivory was actually on the original version of the show.

Of the wrestlers who had stints on GLOW, Brodus Clay also appeared as a minion of hell on the AMC show Preacher. Chavo Guerrero was on a lucha libre inspired episode of the NBC supernatural show Grimm. He was the top wrestler in a promotion and an aspiring young wrestler was tired of jobbing to Guerrero.

The young wrestler bought a haunted mask off of a mask-maker. It gave him the power to beat his bully, but it was corrupting his soul.

#3 John Morrison in various shows

Morrison has been acting as well as wrestling all over the world since leaving WWE.
Morrison has been acting as well as wrestling all over the world since leaving WWE.

The former Johnny Nitro has been a busy man both in the ring and out of it. Not only did he have a role on GLOW but he was also on the fourth season of the Last Ship on TNT.

The show is about how one US Navy ship remains after a virus has taken over the world. The denizens of the ship agree to house a doctor who claims to be able to craft a cure. The ship also agrees to disperse the cure all over the world.

Because they are housing the high-priced doctor, many villains attempt to overtake the ship, the doctor and the cure itself.

The victims aren't turned to zombies or anything, but the show deals a lot with the politics that such a pandemic would create. Of course, there's a lot of red tape.

Morrison's role was that of a fighter named Hercules when the show was set in Greece. He was basically a pit fighter who fought the show's main character, Tom Chandler, played by Eric Dane.

Morrison is also currently a contestant on the US reality show Survivor: David vs. Goliath. He's still on the island and was a part of the 'Goliath' tribe initially.

#2 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper in "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia"

Piper always delivered in his acting roles.
Piper always delivered in his acting roles.

If you haven't watched this show and love comedy, you don't know what you're missing. It's dark and hilarious.

Piper was featured on two episodes of the dark comedy It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. The first was entitled "The Gang Wrestles for the Troops", so you know a pro wrestler was probably going to be on the show.

Luckily for us, it was the always on point Piper. He plays a washed up, retired wrestler named Da Maniac who appeared to be living out of his station wagon. He also randomly has a bag of chestnuts for which he foraged in his back seat.

He agrees to wrestle as the opponent to the main characters in a charity event put on by the gang. He is unable to wrestle in the charity show because he's arrested for unpaid parking tickets. The gang originally thinks it's because he's literally a murdering maniac.

Watching the actor attempt to wrestle is hilarious as are the personas they create.

#1 Ric Flair on "The Cleveland Show"

Animated Ric Flair was just as flashy
Animated Ric Flair was just as flashy

Perhaps one of the more random spots on this list goes to Ric Flair. Flair appeared in cartoon form on an episode of the Cleveland Show. The episode involves Cleveland Brown and his friends who are having issues getting along with each other.

While arguing with each other, they see a commercial with Flair in it. Flair runs a getaway retreat in the woods that focuses on helping friends work together to reclaim their friendship. I know, it sounds weird. But it never gets old seeing an animated version of a wrestler and hearing his or her voice on the show.

We're treated to a few great promos by Flair and of course, he's accompanied by his kiss-stealing women. He doesn't appear during the retreat, however. But Cleveland and all of his friends do dress up in Ric Flair regalia and there are plenty of 'WOOOOS'.

Like Edge before him, Goldberg was on an episode of the Flash. In the episode, Goldberg plays an inmate in the prison that Barry's father was once a prisoner.

Barry was incarcerated for the death of villain Clifford Devoe, but he was framed by Devoe.

Goldberg's character reveals Barry's father saved his life so he intends to repay the favor for Barry. Barry also helps get Goldberg's character out of prison.

I'm sure there are some others that were missed, so please add any recent ones in the comments below!
