5 Reasons why Aleister Black should move back to NXT

The ominous man from Amsterdam, Aleister Black, is one of the most talented additions to the main roster. With a remarkable moveset and a magnetic character, he is one to watch out for. Aleister Black moved to RAW in February 2019, but he still hasn't found his footing on the main roster and a way to remain relevant.

During the first eighteen months of his run on the main roster, Black has failed to make a statement. Casual fans may not be aware of the immense talent he possesses because Black has received negligible screen-time. Black has been protected, but his character has simultaneously been underdeveloped. He owns victories over AJ Styles, Cesaro, Murphy, Bobby Lashley, and Seth Rollins. However, he has also lost important match-ups against Styles, Rollins, and Kevin Owens.

During his main roster stint, he has only feuded with four Superstars: Cesaro, Murphy, Styles, and Owens. He still hasn't won a championship and WWE hasn't established him as a contender for a world title.

He recently underwent a major character change, turning heel for a feud with Owens. The former NXT Champion also wears an eye-patch now. The character change hasn't done me much to revitalized him. In fact, it has made him look more vulnerable.

There are many reasons for Aleister Black to move back to NXT, and this slideshow explains a few.

#5 Aleister Black's main roster run has been disappointing

WWE has failed to preserve Aleister Black's mystical character on the main roster. His aura has diminished to the point where he has become a shadow of the man he was on NXT. He still has an impressive win-loss record, but he has been virtually a non-factor throughout much of his main roster run.

Suffering losses to Rollins and Styles halted his momentum. He did redeem himself in a victory over The Phenomenal One in a No Disqualification Match at Elimination Chamber. The loss to Rollins was more devastating as it was clean and it damaged Black's mystique. Moreover, he was unable to get his back upon the defeat.

Aleister Black's program with Owens didn't do the former much good either. The outcome of the feud rendered Black's heel turn useless, short-sighted, and illogical as it only weakened his position on the main roster.

#4 Aleister Black's character development will take considerable time and effort.

Aleister Black's character is unparalleled.
Aleister Black's character is unparalleled.

Aleister Black's character is distinct. The mystique that surrounds him every time he graces the ring is unparalleled. His bone-chilling entrance is a spectacular sight to behold and his aura instills fear into his opponents. The ambiance in the arena changes when Black arrives.

These are all characteristics of an imposing Superstar who isn't afraid of anyone. Aleister Black's character can be compared to that of The Undertaker, Kane, Mankind, and Sting—four of the most feared Superstars in professional wrestling.

Such an intimidating presence is difficult to create. The Undertaker didn't become a mystical presence overnight. His character, demeanor, and aura took considerable time to develop, and fans accepted him many years after his debut. Sting, Kane, and Mankind also experienced similar character developments. However, these legends got their break in a different era. The same level of investment in a single individual is not forthcoming on the main roster.

WWE would have to build Aleister Black's character from scratch. This would require considerable TV time and creative effort. On NXT, Aleister Black would receive more attention as it has a smaller roster with a more focused creative team. Triple H admires Black's work. Hence, Black would receive significant TV time on NXT and become a mainstay in the main event scene.

#3 Aleister Black will get lost in the shuffle on SmackDown.

Aleister Black will continue to be overshadowed on the main roster unless WWE fully commits to him. The former NXT Champion is a heel, so he needs babyface opponents because WWE rarely books heel versus heel programs.

With that said, there is a severe shortage of quality babyfaces on the blue brand. Kevin Owens, Otis, Rey Mysterio, Big E, and Daniel Bryan come to mind, but that's where the list ends. On the other hand, excellent villains like Lars Sullivan, Sami Zayn, King Corbin, Jey Uso, Buddy Murphy, Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns dominate SmackDown's current roster.

The discrepancy between heels and babyfaces presents a colossal problem as SmackDown's villains outnumber the babyfaces. This creates a conundrum where WWE has fewer challengers for some of its most talented Superstars.

Aleister Black could get lost in the shuffle. There aren't many Superstars available for Black to feud with. Moreover, he recently turned heel, so turning him babyface again would be illogical from a storyline perspective.

#2 Aleister Black's return to NXT will provide a boost

Aleister Black had some amazing matches at NXT.

NXT lost a myriad of top-caliber Superstars this year. Keith Lee and Matt Riddle jumped ship to the main roster this summer. Meanwhile, Karrion Kross, Ridge Holland, and Finn Balor went under the knife with ill-timed injuries.

Furthermore, the stars that remain on NXT have been overexposed to the point where WWE is struggling to find new competitors for them. Stars like Tomasso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and The Undisputed Era are running out of opponents. A main event caliber star-like Aleister Black would help to raise the stakes on NXT again. He would add depth to the roster, and his re-emergence would give rise to several must-see dream matches.

Aleister Black did some of his best work on NXT. Fans will never forget the instant classic he put on with Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in November 2018. His Extreme Rules match with Adam Cole at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia in January 2018 was one of the year's best matches.

His rivalries with Andrade, Ciampa, and The Velveteen Dream were critically acclaimed, as well. The memorable matches were just a preview of what Black is capable of and fans know that he can do much more.

#1 Aleister Black can re-invent himself on NXT.

Aleister Black needs to gain perspective.
Aleister Black needs to gain perspective.

The last four months have proven catastrophic for Aleister Black. However, all hope is not lost. NXT provides a safety net and a haven where Black could return and reestablish dominance again. It provides a platform where the Dutch Destroyer could become a formidable force once again.

Being sent back to NXT is far from a demotion. It can turn a struggling Superstar's career around. Finn Balor was consistently overlooked and misused on the main roster, but then he was suddenly sent back to NXT last October. The move was a stroke of genius as The Prince managed to reinvent himself. Breezango was non-existent on the main roster but the duo found some success on NXT.

On NXT, Black would have newer opponents. Karrion Kross, Finn Balor, and Pat McAfee would prove to be intriguing opponents. A victory over such stars would help him build momentum. Now that he is a heel, he would have a different character arc, meaning that old storylines could be repeated with the roles reversed. The move could add a new perspective to Aleister Black's career as he would be presented with innumerable opportunities on a revamped brand.
