WWE News: Backstage update on who was responsible for Alexa Bliss' controversial segment last week

What's the story?

WWE had segments on both Raw and SmackDown Live last week that reminded fans of the Attitude Era.

Ringsidenews.com is reporting via Ryan Satin on Wrestling Sheet Radio that the person who came up with the segment was Alexa Bliss.

In case you missed it . . .

WWE had primarily been a PG product for the last seven years, but due to some competition from other promotions like Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground, Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, WWE felt it had to switch up its strategy a bit.

The segments were ones that were more reminiscent of the late 1990s and early 2000s rather than contemporary times.

Since Vince Russo, who came up with a lot of controversial segments during the Attitude Era, isn't around pushing these types of segments, who is behind them?

The heart of the matter

While WWE fans might think that the writers were probably the ones who came up with the idea for Alexa Bliss to be walked in on while changing, Ryan Satin of Wrestling Sheet Radio is telling a different story.

“Okay, from what I’ve been told the segment was Alexa’s idea. It was an Alexa thing… she was trying to do a little bit of a tribute to Trish Stratus because it was something Trish Stratus did back in the day […] She’s a big Trish Stratus fan.”

Since Bliss is a big fan of Stratus and was slated to face the former Women's Champion back at Evolution, she wanted to pay homage to her a different way since she was unable to compete at Evolution.

“So from what I heard it was something she wanted to do. It was not a thing that was pushed on her.”

Bliss is a favorite of Vince McMahon and those in charge of creative backstage, so she is more likely to get something she wants to go through in a storyline more so than someone who doesn't have the ear of creative.

What's next?

It seems like 'A Moment of Bliss' is going to be the way to keep Bliss on television until she is able to return to action.

Will Alexa Bliss' new show bring back more ideas similar to the Attitude Era?

And since she cannot contribute in the ring at the moment, she'll likely continue to try and add to the product by pitching story ideas for her character and segment.

WWE might be going forward with more of these types of bits, so at least the idea was not something she was forced to do.
