WWE Elimination Chamber 2019: Star Rating Every Match From The PPV

The Elimination Chamber pay per view for this year is now in the history books. It was certainly a night of solid action and entertainment along with certain disappointments.

The show had seven matches including the fantastic kickoff show Cruiserweight title match.

The first three matches on the main show saw new champions being crowned in a surprising turn of events. This was followed by two not so good matches before the emotional main event.

After that, Ronda Rousey squashed Ruby Riott in disappointing fashion. All in all, this was a decently satisfying show, to say the least.

Here, an attempt is made to analyze every match by rating them on a scale of five-stars.

#1 Buddy Murphy (Champion) vs Akira Tozawa- Singles Match for the Cruiserweight Championship (Kickoff Show)

This match was excellent right from the very beginning. Commencing with a well-executed wristlock sequence, it developed into a fascinating fast pace contest.

The story of the match was Tozawa fearlessly throwing every high-risk move he can at Murphy, but, Murphy being the juggernaut is just strong enough to overcome it all.

It also made good use of the size difference of the two competitors with Murphy once catching Tozawa in mid-air while attempting a suicide dive and hitting a suplex.

Another memorable spot had Murphy roll through to get Tozawa in a fireman's carry after Akira hit a cross body on him in typical John Cena fashion.

He then hit him with a shoulder drop on his knee, pump up knee and a powerbomb in quick succession, but, Tozawa was able to survive.

Murphy barely survived a senton to the back before successfully putting Tozawa away with Murphy's Law. To summarize, this match was a perfect endorsement for the cruiserweight division.

#2 Nia Jax and Tamina vs. The Riot Squad (Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan) vs. Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville vs. The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) vs. Bayley and Sasha Banks vs. Naomi and Carmella-Tag team Elimination Chamber match for the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Championship

This was an incredibly well-booked fun match with the right result. Every team was given an opportunity to shine and the match never turned into chaos owing to a large number of competitors.

The IIconics, funny and entertaining as always were the first to score an elimination by an innovative roll up on Naomi.

This was followed by Nia Jax and Tamina entering last and wreaking havoc on everyone. The IIconics got squashed by them and were eliminated.

This was followed by incredible leaps from the top of the pod by both members of the Riott Squad. However, Nia Jax soon got the better of Morgan and eliminated her after a super Samoan drop.

In an incredible turn of events, Jax crashed into a pod after Bayley sidestepped her. This isolated Tamina and she got eliminated.

The first two teams were the last two left and we witnessed a good climax sequence. All four women were at the top of a pod at one time and Mandy even hit the Boss with her finisher, but, Banks triumphantly kicked out.

The finish came when Banks locked in an innovative Bank Statement using her feet on Sonya who then tapped out.

The only minor complaint I have is the improper selling of injuries. Nia Jax immediately rose to leave the pod after Tamina got eliminated.

#3 The Miz and Shane McMahon (champions) vs. The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso)-Tag team match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

First of all, congratulations to The Miz and Maryse for the good news!

Coming to the match, this match suffered a bit from its placement on the card. The crowd found it hard to invest in after the Women's Tag Team Elimination Chamber.match.

Shane O'Mac and The Miz had the early upper hand but The Usos made a comeback and double teamed on The Miz. Upon getting the hot tag, Shane started cleaning house as usual.

He then hit a cost to coast to the illegal Uso and got caught with a superkick while attempting one on the legal one. Then, in typical Shane McMahon fashion, there was a leap of faith on to the announce table on one of the Usos.

The finish had Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale, only to get rolled up and lose the titles in shocking fashion.

A split between Mcmahon and The Miz was teased, but, it did not happen. This seems to build to WrestleMania match between Miz and Shane.

Rating: 2.75*

#4 Bobby Lashley (Champion) and Lio Rush vs. Finn Bálor- Handicap match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

Lio Rush was built as the weak link who Balor could pin to win the title in the build-up for the match as an attempt to cover up the ridiculousness of the existence of this type of match.

Interestingly enough, that is what happened as this was the third consecutive title change of the night.

Lashley started the match against Balor and tagged in Lio whenever required. There were the usual shenanigans from Lashley and Rush.

Lashley had Balor almost beat when Lio Rush tagged himself in and attempted his finisher, but could not connect.

Balor then took out both Lashley and Rush with a dive over the top rope and then hit the Coup the Grace on the more vulnerable Rush to become the new champion.

In the aftermath, Lio Rush apologized for his overconfidence, but, Bobby hit him with a spine buster out of frustration.

Rating: 2.25*

#5 Ronda Rousey (champion) vs. Ruby Riott- Singles match for the WWE Raw Women's Championship

Charlotte Flair came out first and had an interview in the ring where she showed her heel character by subtly mocking Becky Lynch. She then grabbed a seat at ringside.

The two women supposed to compete then entered and the match began. Ruby Riott tried to stay away from Ronda Rousey in the early going but soon got caught in an armbar and tapped out.

This was, in my opinion, a bad move as it completely shattered the credibility Riott had as a rising star. Although it was done for the bigger picture of the main event of WrestleMania 35, I believe the Leader Of The Riott Squad should have had a good showing.

In the aftermath, as Flair and Rousey stood in the ring, Becky Lynch heroicly came from the crowd on crutches.

She assaulted Charlotte with one of them as Rousey looked on. Then, even Rousey got the beating from The Man who showed up despite being suspended. This left the current RAW Women's champion furious and furthered this story.

Rating: 0.5* (for the match, not the aftermath)

#6 Braun Strowman vs. Baron Corbin- No Disqualification Match

This was a weapon fest. Corbin wielded the kendo stick to try beat Strowman in the beginning, but The Monster Among Men overpowered him.

Then, Corbin utilized the steel steps and was able to halt Strowman's momentum for a while. He then spent his time mocking Strowman and showing off, allowing him to make a comeback.

Strowman then set up a table in the corner of the ring and after a bit of resistance on the part of Corbin, he power slammed him through it.

This brought out McIntyre, who came with a steel chair in hand. Lashley also emerged from behind, and they beat-up Strowman with steel chairs after which Lashley hit a spear and McIntyre a Claymore kick.

To finish things, the trio power bombed Strowman through two tables set one on top of the other and Corbin pinned Strowman to win the match.

Rating: 1.5*

#7 Daniel Bryan (champion) vs. AJ Styles vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Randy Orton vs. Samoa Joe vs. Kofi Kingston- Elimination Chamber match for the WWE Championship

Joe and Bryan were the two to start and Bryan avoided Joe as much as he could. Kofi Kingston entered next and Bryan climbed to the top of his evacuated pod.

This was followed by a great leap from Kofi Kingston from high up the chamber on both Bryan and Joe.

Styles was next to enter. He hit an amazing phenomenal forearm to the back of Bryan's head as he was trying to climb up the chamber.

Joe was the first to go after eating a phenomenal forearm. The best spot was probably Jeff hitting a Swanton bomb on Styles, who was perched on the turnbuckle from the top of the pod. Bryan then hit a running knee to eliminate Hardy.

Another incredible spot saw Orton hit an RKO to AJ Styles while he was attempting a phenomenal forearm which led to the latter's elimination. Kingston then shockingly eliminated Orton after hitting trouble in paradise in a moment of poetic justice.

The crowd was heavily on Kofi's side after only he and Bryan were left. Bryan then hit four consecutive corner dropkicks to the member of The New Day but Kofi still stayed in the fight. He even kicked out of a running knee! Trouble in paradise followed, but, was reversed into a roll-up.

Kofi then jumped off the pod, only for Bryan to move out of the way and hit a running knee for the win. The world was behind Kingston, and WWE made us believe, he could win.

To summarize, this was a good match with decent action and great storytelling. Congratulations to Kofi for the splendid performance.
