WWE Extreme Rules 2020: 5 Potential finishes for Rey Mysterio vs Seth Rollins - Eye For An Eye

Bonds could be broken and new alliances could be forged this weekend

The issues between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins have reached a boiling point over the past few weeks after The Monday Night Messiah pushed Mysterio's face into the steel steps and tried to gouge his eye.

These issues led to Mysterio challenging the former World Champion to an "Eye for an eye" match this weekend at The Horror Show at Extreme Rules with WWE confirming that the match will be just as gruesome as the WWE Universe expects it to be.

The popular phrase has been used in culture many times, but it appears that WWE is taking the phrase literally in this instance since it's already been revealed that the winner will have to remove his opponent's eye.

#5. Rey Mysterio blinds Seth Rollins

There's been a belief for a while that Rey Mysterio's contract is coming to an end and that the company is looking for a way to write him off WWE TV.

Mysterio's recent eye injury was to allow him to head home and train Dominik ahead of a potential in-ring debut. That being said, Mysterio is now negotiating a new contract so it appears that he could be about to stick around for awhile, meaning he could be the victor this weekend.

Seth Rollins can still operate with one eye, whilst Mysterio would be completely blinded. It would be interesting to see that as a Messiah, would Rollins be able to cure himself, or would an eye patch be his new look?

Whilst the entire narrative of the feud here does seem to point in the direction of a Rollins victory, it was Mysterio that challenged Rollins to the match and he is the one who is fighting for revenge. Throughout the former WWE Champion's career, he has made it clear that he is more than happy to be seen as the underdog.

#4. Dominik interference leading up to his debut

Let's be honest, if the main rule of a match is to extract your opponent's eye, then it's likely that this match won't be one where a disqualification will be the finish. Both Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins have been primed and prepared to get their hands on one another, and finally this weekend, they will have the chance.

Dominik has been waiting on the sidelines over the past few weeks and at one point even came to Raw, alone, to take on The Monday Night Messiah and his Disciples. This shows that he isn't afraid of the former WWE Champion.

It's easy to see that if the odds are stacked against his father and he's about to lose both of his eyes then Dominik will step in and help him by attacking Rollins and Murphy which could potentially tease his WWE debut.

Dominik's debut has been a hot topic of conversation for the WWE Universe over the last few months and if Mysterio loses here then it could lead to him taking on Rollins at SummerSlam in his debut WWE match.

#3. Murphy turns on Seth Rollins

Murphy has been The Monday Night Messiah's most loyal follower over the past few months, but last night on RAW it was clear that the former Cruiserweight Champion wasn't happy with this match.

Rollins has already lost both AOP and Austin Theory in recent weeks, so without any disciples, is Rollins even considered to be a Messiah.

There has to come a point when even Murphy sees that what Rollins is doing is too much and blinding a man over a vendetta or to deliver a message could be the thing that shows the former NXT star that his Messiah isn't who he says he is.

WWE has noted that the end will be graphic and reports suggest that CGI could be used to enhance this. Will WWE go one step further and have Murphy turn on Rollins following the match? Or have Murphy walk away and tease that he's not prepared to stoop to the same level as the former WWE Champion in order to make a statement.

#2. The return of Austin Theory

Austin Theory has been mysteriously missing from WWE TV for a number of weeks now without any kind of on-screen explanation. Theory originally came up to RAW with Zelina Vega but was ousted from her group when Andrade and Angel Garza decided that he was no longer needed.

Rollins was then on hand to help him and he joined as one of his disciples, but he's been nowhere to be seen for weeks.

Last night on RAW, Rollins was in a position where Rey Mysterio, Dominik, and Aleister Black all had him surrounded. The former WWE Champion knows that he has a number of enemies and he will want to ensure that this weekend he has enough backup to go into this match and level out the numbers game.

Whilst The Authors of Pain are still on the sidelines through injury, that doesn't mean that Austin Theory can't make his WWE return and help Rollins overcome the threat of the Mysterio family. Either that, or Rollins needs to find a new disciple - and fast. But that could be hard since he's made many enemies in recent weeks.

#1. Seth Rollins blinds Rey Mysterio

Seth Rollins has been pushed as The Monday Night Messiah over the past few months but he hasn't actually done anything to prove himself in the position.

Surely this match is the perfect set up for Rollins since he could go on to blind Rey Mysterio before then being the only man who can give him back his sight in both eyes.

Perhaps this will be seen as a teaching moment for the former WWE Champion since he can then show the world that he is the Messiah that he is trying to be, or he will use it to his advantage and try to recruit Dominik as a disciple by offering up his father's sight.

WWE could unlock so much potential with Seth Rollins in the coming weeks and if CGI is an option then the company should use it to the best of their ability.

If Rollins is the one who picks up the win at Extreme Rules this weekend, then the sky is the limit for WWE with this rivalry moving forward.
