WWE History: 4 superstars who made huge sacrifices for the company

Ever since professional wrestling came into being, the pre-determined sport has wowed generations upon generations of fans. When Vince McMahon bought WWE from his father, the world of wrestling changed forever.

Vince went on to take over the entire wrestling business in North America, buying off a number of territories in the process. Today, WWE has become a global phenomenon, thanks to McMahon's vision and sacrifices.

But Vince wasn't the only one who made huge sacrifices for WWE. There have been countless Superstars who made major sacrifices for the sake of WWE and Vince McMahon. Let's take a look at four of these Superstars.

#4 Bret Hart

Hart's loyalty led to this disaster

In October 1996, Eric Bischoff offered a ridiculously lucrative contract to Bret Hart, whose WWE contract was on the verge of expiring. WCW offered Hart an astronomical amount of US$9 million!

Hart, being the ever-loyal wrestler, who also had a lot of respect for Vince McMahon, opted to decline the contract, and sign a 20-year deal with WWE. Later on, Vince McMahon told Bret that WWE was in a financial crunch, stemming from WCW's popularity. Vince encouraged Bret to go ahead and accept the contract that Bischoff was offering.

A reluctant Hart ended up going to WCW, but not before getting involved in one of the most controversial events in the history of professional wrestling, The Montreal Screwjob. Bret went to WCW, for a reduced amount. His career came to an end years later when he suffered an injury in a match with Goldberg.

Had Hart accepted Bischoff's original offer, things would have gone different for The Canadian Hero, and the Montreal Screwjob would never have happened. Bret's loyalty to Vince McMahon forced him to refuse Bischoff's original offer, which turned out to be a huge mistake on Bret's part.

#3 Kurt Angle

Shaving his head proved to be a wise decision on Angle's part

In the summer of 2002, Kurt Angle was feuding with Edge. Angle had always been a dedicated athlete and was ready to go to any lengths to build up his character.

Angle proposed the idea to go completely bald, and use this to advance his storyline with Edge. Vince agreed as Angle was already on the verge of going bald.

At Judgment Day 2002, Angle lost a "Hair vs Hair" match against Edge and proceeded to get his head shaved bald on PPV. The shaved head was used in Kurt Angle's character progression and he went on to become a ruthless heel, as opposed to his former goofy persona.

By the end of 2005, Angle had turned into one of the most intimidating and dominant athletes on the WWE roster. He went on to move to SmackDown and win the World Heavyweight title in a battle royal, after eliminating Mark Henry. Angle soon left the company and moved to TNA.

#2 Mick Foley

Foley managed to do pretty well for himself

Foley never looked like a traditional wrestler: the chiseled, muscled-up hulk, fans used to see on fitness magazines. He still somehow managed to leave a lasting mark on the business and went on to defeat The Rock on an episode of Monday Night Raw in 1999 to win the WWE title.

Foley is dubbed as The Hardcore Legend, and he deserves this moniker. He battled The Undertaker in the most famous Hell in a Cell match in history, falling off the top of the cell, onto the announce table.

Foley also wrestled Edge at WrestleMania 22 in a hardcore match, which ended when Edge speared Foley on a flaming table!

In 2004, Foley faced off against Randy Orton in a hardcore match, in what is dubbed as the match that made Orton a star. Foley did the same for Triple H during The McMahon-Helmsley Era, all at the cost of his health and well-being.

#1 The Undertaker

Perhaps the most shocking moment in WWE history

Ever since he made his debut at Survivor Series 1990, The Undertaker has been a mainstay in WWE. An ideal worker, Taker has always done what's best for business.

The Phenom was set to defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30, advancing his WrestleMania undefeated streak to 22-0. Vince McMahon changed the plan at the last minute, deciding to finally put an end to the streak.

Reportedly, The Undertaker didn't question Vince's decision and went along with it. The streak had become a WrestleMania staple and was synonymous with Taker's dominance in the company.

The breaking of the streak is still considered by many as a controversial decision that could have been avoided. It was hands down the most impressive feat in the history of the business. The fact that Undertaker didn't even budge for a second upon learning that the streak was going to end, speaks volumes about him as a loyal worker.
