The backstory

WWE Superstar Samoa Joe is currently enjoying his second run as the WWE United States Champion after an injured Rey Mysterio relinquished the title. It has taken a long while for Joe to reach this stage in his career, after being an afterthought on the main roster for months on end.

Joe feuded with Brock Lesnar way back in 2017 but failed to capture the Universal Title from The Beast. Ever since then, Joe didn't do anything much of note and has missed multiple WrestleMania events due to injuries. This year, Joe finally managed to win the WWE United States Title and squashed Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 35 to retain the same.

Before coming up to the main roster, Joe was a force to be reckoned with down in the NXT.

The incident

The following clip is from the time Joe was being escorted by security for his match against Shinsuke Nakamura at TakeOver: Brooklyn II. One of the security personnel is none other than current All Elite Wrestling Superstar, MJF! He signed with AEW earlier this year in January and was featured in the Double Or Nothing battle royal to determine the #1 contender for the AEW World Title.

MJF was impressive throughout the free-for-all, as he managed to stay inside the ring until he was finally eliminated by Hangman Page, leading to Page's victory.

The clip shows MJF trying to move ahead a little bit more than Joe seemed comfortable with, and the heavyweight proceeded to shove him to the side. It's not clear whether it was a pre-planned move or if Joe improvised it on the spot. Nonetheless, this sure is an interesting clip, considering where both Superstars are today.

The aftermath

Joe is currently a mainstay on the WWE main roster, while MJF has a fulfilling career ahead of him in All Elite Wrestling. He was recently seen going at it with Chris Jericho on Twitter, which can be checked out here.
