The backstory

The spring of 2002 saw Brock Lesnar come up to the main roster and immediately turn into one of the most dominant athletes in WWE. Lesnar defeated Rob Van Dam to win the King of the Ring tournament, plus a championship shot at Summerslam. At Vengeance 2002, The Rock defeated Undertaker and Kurt Angle to win the WWE Undisputed Title, confirming the main event of The Biggest Party of the Summer.

The Beast went on to destroy Hulk Hogan on an episode of SmackDown. The next week on Raw, Lesnar secured a front-row seat along with Paul Heyman, wearing Hulk Hogan gear in an attempt to mock the fallen legend.

Triple H kicked off a segment that saw him berating his Summerslam opponent Shawn Michaels. The Game didn't get to do it for long though, as The Rock interfered and kicked off a verbal beatdown on him.

Triple H challenged The Brahma Bull to come inside for a fight, to which The Rock happily agreed. The back and forth began almost immediately, with The Rock on the verge of putting Triple H down. Suddenly, Lesnar crossed the barricade and distracted The Rock, enough for Triple H to connect a thunderous Pedigree.

Lesnar left with a smirk on his face, while Triple H looked in disgust at the fallen champion.

The aftermath

At Summerslam 2002, Lesnar defeated The Rock to win the WWE Title, kicking off a brand new era which didn't include the likes of The Rock or Stone Cold Steve Austin. Triple H lost his unsanctioned match to Shawn Michaels, which ended up being Michaels' career resurgence. The Heart Break Kid went on to compete for the next 8 years and have a string of legendary matches, most notably his WrestleMania 25 classic against The Undertaker.
