WWE History: When the Undertaker was a Paul Heyman guy

The backstory

Over the course of the past three decades, The Undertaker has emerged to be one of the greatest Superstars to ever step foot inside the squared circle. The Phenom has main-evented WrestleManias, won several championships, and has carved his own niche in the industry.

He debuted in WWE as a part of Ted Dibiase's dream team at Survivor Series 1990. But before The Deadman came into WWE, he was nothing more than another bland big guy trying to find his footing in the business.

Mean Mark Callous

The Undertaker wrestled in NWA Wrestling as Mean Mark Callous in the early 1990s. He was managed by none other than Paul Heyman!

The following clip shows Mean Mark making short work of Lee Scott and going at the back to stand behind Paul Heyman, while he delivers a promo in order to put over the giant. This promo took place in May 1990, mere months before The Undertaker debuted at Survivor Series.

Paul Heyman wasn't the only guy who managed The Undertaker during his pre-WWE days. WWE Hall of Famer and former General Manager of SmackDown Live, Teddy Long, also managed Mean Mark for a while, as evident from this clip.

The aftermath

The character of The Undertaker took off in WWE, and he went on to become one of the biggest Superstars in the history of the promotion, as well as professional wrestling.

The Undertaker built a WrestleMania winning streak that kicked off at WrestleMania 7 with a win over Jimmy Snuka, and it ended at the 30th edition of the annual extravaganza when Brock Lesnar put him down.

The Undertaker went on to lose another WrestleMania match three years later, this time to Roman Reigns. The Deadman didn't appear at this year's edition of WrestleMania but is being advertised for the upcoming Saudi Arabia show.
