In a year filled with nostalgic returns, WWE has blessed us all with the return of the prestigious King of the Ring. The tournament has allowed WWE to create more meaningful TV content and build the legacies of several superstars. We started off with 16 superstars which have now been whittled down to two, one from each brand.

Against all odds, Chad Gable has made it to the final of King of the Ring. When this tournament was first announced, many predicted the likes of Drew McIntyre, Samoa Joe, Kevin Owens and Baron Corbin as the favourites, no one’s list included Gable. The 33-year-old has adopted the role of the babyface underdog in this story, looking to defy all odds by defeating Baron Corbin next Monday.

The former GM of Monday Night RAW has been a constant in the main event scene over the past year, establishing himself as one of the company’s most trusted performers. That’s why he finds himself in another high-profile scenario, with the odds firmly in his favour.

Here are 5 possible finishes to the Gable v Corbin clash in the final of King of the Ring 2019.

#5 Shane McMahon interference

Last week’s episode of SmackDown ended with Chad Gable picking up the win of his career, forcing Shane McMahon to tap out. Of course, this finish was marred with the controversy of Kevin Owens’ involvement and eventual sacking, but that doesn’t take away the fact Gable is in the King of the Ring 2019 final. This reality hasn’t gone down too well with the Best in the World and there will be a lot to pay come next Monday.

Shane McMahon has portrayed himself to be a character that never takes defeat lying down. It’s extremely probable that the boss’s son makes the trip to the Red Brand and vindictively costs Gable the match. As the authority figure he is, he could even cost Gable the match with blatant cheating in front of the referee. Regardless of if he opts to adopt a sneaky or bullish method, Shane McMahon will make his presence felt on Monday.

#4 Corbin wins by a clean pinfall

In reality, the WWE has given the WWE Universe much reason to believe in Chad Gable winning on Monday. Instead, they’ve shown us over the past year that in most high-pressure situations, Baron Corbin wins. So, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if the two were to go back and forth in a match filled with several near falls, only for Gable to run into a vicious end of days, declaring the Lone Wolf as King of the Ring.

After the match, Corbin’s smug and arrogant nature would retain his heel persona after a clean victory. The loss wouldn’t do much to Gable’s reputation as he’s already a mid-card talent that wasn’t in the limelight before this tournament. As for Corbin, the win would cement his place as the top heel in the company, readying him for a Universal Championship run.

#3 Ricochet extracts revenge

Last week on Monday Night Raw, the WWE universe witnessed the first triple threat in King of the Ring history. Madison Square Garden was treated to an epic bout between Baron Corbin, Samoa Joe and Ricochet. The match ended in Corbin pinning Samoa Joe after capitalising on the impressive hard work of Ricochet. Now the high-flying superstar would be well within his right to have some involvement in this match after having his dream win stolen.

Ricochet has been the standout performer of this tournament, most notably beating Drew McIntyre in the first round. He has looked unstoppable over the past couple weeks and he would certainly be in this final if it weren’t for Corbin’s sneaky antics. It’d make sense to see Ricochet running down to the ring to distract Corbin just enough for Gable to get him into position for an ankle lock.

#2 Gable taps Corbin out

Correct me if I’m going crazy, but does it feel like we’re seeing the reincarnation of Kurt Angle? The American hero babyface that forces his opponents to tap out. If we are seeing that, then the Hall of Famer himself is on board with it, as he praised Gable for using his finisher on Tuesday. With an extremely thorough background in Olympic wrestling, Gable is as original as they come. Certainly, it looks as though the WWE is ready to put the machine behind him.

Baron Corbin is perhaps the most despised heel in the company today. Fans pay money to see him get beaten up and can’t stand the fact he wins so much – exactly the reaction a heel should be gaining. There’d be no better sight on RAW than to see Chad Gable acquire the biggest accolade of his career by making Baron Corbin tap out.

#1 Corbin cheats to win

Will we soon be calling Baron Corbin, King Corbin?

Cheating is is one of the major traits associated with Baron Corbin. The former RAW GM has been the WWE’s go-to heel persona for over a year now, with his highlight being a win over Kurt Angle at Wrestlemania. Every major accolade he’s achieved in the WWE has been through a dubious means, why should the King of the Ring be any different?

Many WWE fans have become resigned to the fact that this devilish heel is here to stay and will constantly find himself in main event positions.

On Monday night, we need to see a match in which Chad Gable gives his all, trying every move in the book against a man nearly twice his size, only for Corbin to disrespect the integrity of the tournament by finding a crooked method to keep Gable down for the count of three.

This could be through the use of a foreign object or undoing the top turnbuckle when the referee’s back is turned. Either way, Corbin usually always finds a way to get in done.
