What’s the story?

During the latest edition of The Steve Austin Show, WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin caught up with fellow Hall of Famer and former WWE Hardcore Champion Al Snow.

During his interaction with Austin, Al Snow talked about the change in the Professional Wrestling business, whether kayfabe is, in fact, dead, and what young talents can learn from the broken brilliance of WWE Monday Night RAW's Matt Hardy.

In case you didn’t know…

Al Snow is a former WWE superstar who has also worked as a color commentator and a training coach in the Pro Wrestling business. Snow, who made his debut in the year 1995, has held several championships during his run with the WWF.

The 54-year-old is a former WWF Tag Team Champion, Hardcore Champion, and European Champion. However, Al Snow has also wrestled for numerous top Independent promotions such as Jersey Pro Wrestling, MCW, Global Wrestling Alliance and many more.

The heart of the matter

Al Snow recently discussed a host of topics related to the current wrestling business, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin. Here are a few highlights from the interview:

The change in the landscape of Professional Wrestling:

Al Snow claims that the current style in Professional Wrestling has been dictated by the WWE and almost everyone related to Pro Wrestling follows and adapts that style. Snow also believes that psychologically everyone who is associated with Pro Wrestling has been making the same mistake and have seemed to forget the simple concept of wrestling.

Whether Kayfabe is alive or dead and Matt Hardy’s influence on Pro Wrestling:

According to Al Snow, anyone who is affiliated to Pro Wrestling gets kayfabe wrong at some point in their career. However, Snow thinks that the reason why Matt Hardy got so over with his 'Broken Brilliance' gimmick is that he never broke his character and sold the audience a ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy every time he was in public.

“You didn't see a 'Broken' Matt Hardy on TV and now he's Matt Hardy on a podcast with Steve Austin - he's totally out of character and he's just Matt, just having a conversation with Steve and they're two buds kicking it back. He was still 'Broken' Matt Hardy and that's what that audience wants."- Matt Hardy stated.

What’s next?

Al Snow is currently working on the Independent scene and has been taking bookings for promotions such as Chikara. Snow has been frequently performing in the US, but he has been wrestling for European promotions as well.

Author’s Take

A veteran like Al Snow totally understands how the wrestling business actually works and Snow also knows how important Kayfabe is in today’s Pro Wrestling world.
