WWE News: Backstage altercation between Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar

Storyline doubt results in real-life tension

Last night, a match ‘15 years in the making’ became a reality when Brock Lesnar squared off against Randy Orton. The match was not only short but ended in a TKO, which disappointed several wrestling fans. Surprisingly, this led to a heated backstage confrontation between Lesnar and another former World Champion, Chris Jericho.

The way Lesnar in which hammered the forehead of the Viper with his elbows was painful to watch. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Chris Jericho was concerned about Orton’s health and came to the gorilla position as soon as the match ended. The WWE veteran wanted to make sure if Orton was alright and enquired with WWE producer Michael “PS” Hayes regarding the matter. Jericho reportedly uttered “Bul*s**t” as Hayes didn’t give him a proper reply.

Such a comment from Jericho came just as the Beast returned backstage after the match. Brock Lesnar thought that Jericho was discussing his match with Orton, and according to some sources, he told Jericho to “shut up”, while other sources report that he warned Jericho to mind his own business. The situation went up a notch when both of them were shouting at each other and made the altercation physical.

Apparently, at this point, Lesnar pushed Jericho with his fingers which led Jericho to do, what can be described as, the “Rousey-Tate” forehead press. Another version of the story indicates that Jerico shoved Lesnar into the wall. The two former World Champions reportedly tangled up against the wall and Lesnar shouted at Jericho to either punch him or kiss him. Triple H had to interfere to separate the two.

Lesnar and Jericho resumed their fight again, but this time, Vince McMahon himself had to break it up. Vince assured Jericho, who was then yelling at the Beast, that the ending of the match was indeed a work and asked him to act like a “professional”.

Some reports point out that Triple H informed Vince that Lesnar initiated the fight while Jericho was just standing up for himself. Eventually, Orton helped Jericho to calm down by stating that the ending of the match was indeed planned.

The situation between Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar could have been avoided if Michael Hayes clarified the dispute in the first place. Jericho, being a veteran locker room leader, was disappointed that he was not given any proper answer.

This can be cited as another action of Lesnar which may bring a negative feedback for the company and only time will tell if any strict action is taken against the Beast. Let us know what you feel in the comments section below.
