WWE Rumors: Baron Corbin to get new entrance theme as part of a big push

The Lone Wolf is going straight to the top.

What’s the story?

Baron Corbin has been a major player since on Smackdown Live! ever since WrestleMania 33. According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it looks like those plans include a brand new entrance theme and the main event push.

In case you didn’t know..

Corbin and current Intercontinental Champion Dean Ambrose were embroiled in an intense feud. While Corbin wasn’t able to get the title from Ambrose during the WrestleMania pre-show, he did defeat the champ in a non-title match the Smackdown following ‘Mania, before Ambrose moved to Raw.

In the meantime, Jinder Mahal snagged the #1 contender spot to the WWE Championship this past Tuesday to take on champion Randy Orton at Backlash next month.

The heart of the story

So, while Mahal is being positioned as a major main-event heel (or a placeholder for Rusev, depending on who you talk to), it looks like Corbin is their bad guy of the future. In a video on WWE.com, Corbin was listed as one of five wrestlers who they expect to win a world title soon.

With new music and possibly other additions to his character, it’s quite possible we’ll be seeing the former Arizona Cardinal with gold around his waist soon.

What’s next?

To begin with, we’ll need to wait and see what happens at Backlash. Will Orton beat Mahal and then go on to challenge Corbin? Will Corbin interfere in the match? Will Mahal win thanks to the stable he seems to be forming?

We’ll have to wait and see, but it should be a pretty interesting PPV.

Author’s take

I think it’s only a matter of time before they put a belt of some sort on Corbin, and since I don’t see him going anywhere near the U.S. title while Kevin Owens has it, it might as well be the WWE Championship.

Personally, I can see Mahal winning the title from Orton via nefarious means, only to lose it to Corbin later on. This is one of those situations where it’s really hard to predict the outcome, which makes it all the more entertaining.
