The heart of the matter

During her interview, Charlotte Flair revealed that she had been made fun of for being divorced when she first came to WWE.

Flair was not sure of the reason this bothered her but she thought it could have been because she was embarrassed, or she was comparing herself to her female peers in WWE.

She "hated failing" and felt the need to get it off her chest, so she put it in her book to share what she had been through and learned along the way. The current SmackDown Women's Champion also confessed she felt she had come out of the experience a better person.

“It really got to me when I first started in WWE that people would make fun of me being divorced. My dad has been divorced so many times. I don’t know why it bothered me. I don’t know whether it’s because I hate failing or I was embarrassed or comparing myself to my female peers — I don’t know. But to just get that off my chest, explain what I’ve been through or what I’ve learned, [how] I’ve come out a better person. I think that was the hardest part to share.”

What's next?

Charlotte Flair is set to defend her SmackDown Women's Championship in a Lumberjack match against Natalya at Clash of Champions this Sunday.

Author's take

Charlotte experienced a lot of hardship early in her life. Having a father like Ric Flair cannot be easy as she has to work inside his enormous shadow. Flair is currently doing amazingly well in her career, as she is a Women's Champion once again.
