On a recent edition of E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness, Corey Graves opened up on a myriad of topics.

Graves notably spoke about WWE Superstars cutting promos in the form of “selfie videos”.

In case you didn’t know…

The WWE recently introduced a format whereby WWE Superstars cut promos in selfie videos; replete with colorful subtitles.

The format is yet to be implemented on a large scale in the WWE since it was mainly utilized in the WWE’s recent Mixed Match Challenge (MMC) tournament.

The heart of the matter

One ought to note that the WWE’s aforementioned “selfie promo” segments received mixed reviews from both fans & experts in the professional wrestling community.

Corey Graves addressed the selfie promos and asserted that his 7-year old daughter recently watched WWE’s Mixed Match Challenge, and she loved it.

Graves added that perhaps the selfie videos and the fact that fans get to see their favorite WWE Superstars cutting promos in a different way is what appeals to the younger demographic of fans.

Furthermore, yet another feature regarding the selfie promos which was discussed on the podcast is that as opposed to the traditional promo footage put forth by WWE, the selfie promos are more relatable to the audience in today’s world—what with the considerable usage of social media applications such as YouTube, making selfie promos more relatable for the WWE Universe.

What’s next?

The WWE continues to grow as a global sports-entertainment promotion; expanding its fan-base into the farthest corners of the world.

Presently, the vast majority of professional wrestling experts believe that the WWE isn’t likely to indulge in much use of the selfie promos in the future, after having garnered mixed reactions to the same.

Truth be told—the WWE is better off sticking to the traditional format of promos.

While the selfie promos are good in their own right, nothing beats a typical old-school WWE promo.
