WWE News: Former Heavyweight Champion Christian released from performer's contract

He was never going to wrestle again and his WWE Network with Edge show is still going strong

In what seems like the WWE continuing to thin the herd, another name joins the string of Superstars who were given their final handshake by the WWE over the weekend. WWE veteran Christian has been released from his performer’s contract today. But there’s no need for alarm, as you will discover.

The former two-time WWE Heavyweight Champion has less reason to worry than the others because he will continue to be a part of the company as one of the hosts of the “Edge and Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness”.

The 42-year-old’s performer’s contract was still valid despite his inactivity in the ring since 2014 owing to a concussion blight. Christian, real name William Jason "Jay" Reso, left the WWE in 2005 only to return in 2010. The four year-run though his most successful, was riddled with injuries which led to him hanging up his boots as a wrestler.

Despite Vince McMahon’s well-known disfavour, Christian’s in-ring career is highly respectable. The famed tag team specialist (9-time tag team champion) has also won the WWE Intercontinental Championship four times, the ECW Championship twice and was awarded Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Tag Team of the Year in 2000, along with his best friend Edge.
