What’s the Story?

Last month, WWE announced an official replacement for the annual Backlash Pay-per-view. The new event was given the name “WWE Stomping Grounds”. Unlike last year’s Backlash event, which was the first Pay-per-view post-Wrestlemania, Stomping Grounds was pushed back to the end of June, placing it after Money in the Bank and the Saudi Arabia Network Special.

As the event approaches, the match card has begun shaping up and the first official match was announced during last night’s edition of Monday Night Raw.

In case you didn’t know…

Ever since Roman Reigns got drafted to Smackdown Live, he has been entangled in a feud with Shane McMahon and the Superstars he aligns himself with. The feud brought Roman Reigns back to Raw as well (resulting in the creation of the Wild Card Rule).

The Big Dog’s heated rivalry with the Best in the World caused the latter to enlist the help of Reign’s Wrestlemania 35 opponent, Drew McIntyre. Ever since McIntyre joined forces with Shane McMahon, Reigns has been having a hard time getting the best of the Blue Brand’s commissioner.

The heart of the matter...

Roman Reigns is all set to battle Shane McMahon this Friday at Super Showdown. However, the Big Dog’s pursuit doesn’t end there as he plans to dismantle the Scottish Psychopath soon after.

On last night’s Raw, Roman Reigns announced that he would be facing Drew McIntyre at WWE Stomping Ground that will take place around 2 weeks after Super Showdown. This will be Reigns’ and McIntyre’s second head-to-head encounter since Wrestlemania 35.

Earlier, Reigns was being advertised to square off against Randy Orton but the announced match makes much more sense storyline-wise.

What’s next?

Roman Reigns has to face Shane McMahon first this Friday and Drew McIntyre is expected to play a significant role in the match to fuel up his highly anticipated Wrestlemania 35 rematch.

WWE Stomping Grounds is all set to air live from Takoma Dome on June 23rd, 2019. The event will be hosted by the city of Tacoma (as the arena name suggests).
