WWE News: Matt Hardy hints at a return to the Broken gimmick

Are great things on the horizon?

What’s the story?

WWE Superstar Matt Hardy has once again hinted at a return to the Broken gimmick that he made famous over in Impact Wrestling. Hardy, who is one-half of the Raw Tag Team Champions alongside brother Jeff, made the comment on Twitter.

In case you didn’t know...

Many fans have been clamouring to see Matt return to his Broken ways ever since the Hardy Boyz returned to WWE at WrestleMania 33. Since then, however, the brothers have only shown hints of the characters that re-ignited their career. Matt, in particular, is expected to transition into that persona within the next few months fully.

The heart of the matter

As seen in the tweet, Matt used footage of an owl flying into a window to once again hint at Broken Matt Hardy’s reappearance. The rumours over the last few days have suggested that WWE has indeed purchased the rights to use the gimmick, with the “obsolete owl” that Matt is referring to being Impact Wrestling who have done everything in their power to prevent them being Broken.

What’s next?

It seems like only a matter of time before Matt finally goes back to his old ways, which is an exciting prospect for many fans of his work prior to returning to WWE. With the Hardy Boyz set to defend their Raw Tag Team Titles this Sunday against Cesaro & Sheamus at Payback, the switch could happen as soon as this weekend. Will San Jose be made obsolete?

Author’s take

Aside from using footage of an owl hitting a window to get his point across, this is another step in the right direction for Matt and WWE. It seems likely at this point that his Broken ways will be revisited very soon; however, we hope that the company keeps Jeff in his Charismatic Enigma persona as that’s the version of him that the WWE Universe remembers best.
