What's the story?

In October last year, the rumour mill was working overtime speculating that Nia Jax was about to follow former Cruiserweight Champion Neville out of WWE, after she failed to appear on a few scheduled shows.

In an interview with PopCulture, Jax has now revealed the real reason she took time off from the company.

In case you didn't know…

In October last year, after Nia Jax failed to appear on a few episodes of Raw and some house shows, many reports began surfacing that she requested time off from the company due to creative differences.

These rumours also suggested that she even had the blessing of her cousin, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, if she wanted to walk out of the company. However within a few weeks, Jax was back in action and the speculation surrounding her future was finally put to rest.

The heart of the matter

Now, for the first time, the Raw Women's Champion has revealed that the reason behind her absence from WWE programming was due to an injury she suffered from a freak accident while travelling on an aeroplane.

Apparently, Jax was knocked out cold after a piece of luggage landed hard on her head from the overhead compartment while she was asleep. Due to this, Jax said that she was told to take some time off and recuperate from the accident.

"It has nothing to do with that at all. It wasn't something that was that big of a deal. I had actually had an injury that happened to me personally on a flight - an overhead bag fell directly on top of my head while I was on a plane. I was out of it, I was completely out of it. I'm not kidding you."

She also went on to quash any reports of The Rock suggesting that she leave WWE, calling it the craziest thing she'd ever heard.

"That was the craziest thing I've ever heard! The fact that people would think that Dwayne would ever tell me to not do something for the WWE, a place that's actually given him his start and the reason he is on top of the world, it's completely false and hilarious."

What's next?

Nia Jax is set to defend her Raw Women's Championship against Alexa Bliss this Sunday at Backlash, in a rematch from WrestleMania.

Author's take

Head injuries are no small matter and Jax was indeed very lucky to have escaped without any serious consequences.
