'The Creator' Triple H with 'The Destroyer' Samoa Joe

What's the story?

Samoa Joe recently did an interview with ComicBook.com to promote his writing debut for the Raw 25 edition of WWE Comics. In the interview, he discussed a meeting he had with Triple H before signing with the WWE.

In case you didn't know...

After a long road, Samoa Joe finally made his way to the WWE in 2015. His debut came at NXT Takeover: Unstoppable on May 20th when he prevented Kevin Owens from attacking Sami Zayn any further. He further went on to become the first wrestler to have two NXT Championship reigns.

The heart of the matter

In the interview, Joe mentions how it took a LOT of convincing for him to sign on the dotted line with the WWE. Joe states that a lot of the story in the comic (with some creative liberty) is what actually happened in the process to get him to come to the WWE.

The conversation between the WWE and Joe stretches out for nearly 15 years. Various aspects of that story have been featured in the comic. One particular moment was a dinner meeting with Triple H just prior to Joe making his way to NXT. Joe mentioned that the restaurant they actually went to is nicer than the one portrayed in the comic.

Shortly after that meeting, Joe was convinced to sign with the WWE. Interestingly enough, another dinner meeting involving Triple H made headlines last week when he met with Ronda Rousey. Could we see history repeating itself here?

What's next?

Joe suffered a leg injury in his match on January 8th against Rhyno on Monday Night Raw and is out for an indefinite amount of time. At the time of this writing, he appears to be out through late March and could miss WrestleMania.

Author's take

I think it's really cool that Samoa Joe is putting his journey to the WWE in comic book form. I've been a fan of Joe's for a long long time, and to see him get to NXT and the WWE and excel definitely puts a smile on my face.
