The official Twitter account of WWE on FOX took a jab at WWE's Wild Card Rule by posting a hilarious photo. The photo (shown below) depicts the image of a burning candle, honoring the memory of the oft maligned Wild Card Rule.

The Wild Card Rule was introduced by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon on the May 6th 2019 edition of WWE RAW. The controversial rule is officially coming to an end following the WWE Draft on October 11th and 14th, which will be held on both SmackDown and RAW.

The bizarre Wild Card Rule was reportedly implemented as a method to boost ratings on both main roster brands. However, the conception of the rule was met with criticism by a noticeable section of the WWE Universe and even some WWE Superstars.

When one Twitter user commented on the photo's thread, saying that WWE on FOX must have disliked the rule too, the Twitter account replied by stating that it was all done in good humor.

So, what exactly was the Wild Card Rule?

According to the rule, a limited number of Superstars from RAW and SmackDown were allowed to cross brands for one-night only appearances. Any unauthorized appearances could be penalized by fines or even possible suspensions or firings.

The rule was kicked off with the appearance of then WWE Champion Kofi Kingston, Roman Reigns, and Daniel Bryan on the Red Brand. The number of Superstars that could crossover was initially restricted to three, but was later increased to four after some persuasion by Lars Sullivan.

Certain Superstars were exempted from the rule during that time such as Becky Lynch who held both the RAW and SmackDown Women's Championship and then WWE Women's Tag Team Champions The IIconics, who were allowed to defend their titles on all brands, even NXT.

On the September 16th episode of RAW, Michael Cole officially confirmed that the Wild Card Rule would end following the 2019 WWE Draft on October 11th and 14th. The message was also reiterated by Tom Phillips on the September 17th episode of SmackDown.
