WWE NXT TakeOver: Toronto 2019: 5 Surprises that could happen- Major return, Huge invasion?

Seeing Ciampa return to the fold would be quite awesome
Seeing Ciampa return to the fold would be quite awesome

I always say that surprises are the backbone of what we know as sports entertainment or even professional wrestling. This is what separates it from 'real' sports per se.

And while I always say that surprises can enhance and enrich a product, NXT is the exception because TakeOvers are fantastic events in themselves, per se. And yet, a surprise or two does not hurt because they bleed into the new season and can certainly make the product a lot more interesting.

Chime in with what surprises you may potentially like to see unfold at the event. I'd love to hear your thoughts and views in the comments below.

Here are a few things that I would like to see...

#5 Tommaso Ciampa attacks the NXT Champion

The life of a professional wrestler is not easy and nobody knows this better than Tommaso Ciampa, a man who was injured at the height of his run. This is a man who not only made NXT his home and his 'yard' to borrow a phrase but was also promoted to the main roster before an injury ensured that he would have to surrender his NXT Championship.

Could he return in the main event match, and attack the winner of the Adam Cole vs. Johnny Gargano title contest after they've gone three grueling rounds? It need not necessarily signal his comeback considering that he may not be cleared to compete yet, but it could lay the foundation for what could be a very compelling feud in due time.

It would certainly cause a huge amount of buzz considering how beloved and despised Ciampa is at the same time. There would be a feeling of 'anything can happen in NXT' about the event, if this happens.

#4 Interesting name spotted in the stands

As reported by Tom Colohue of Sportskeeda, Ronda Rousey is keen to enter the mix again now that she knows that Paul Heyman is in charge of RAW. And as reported by Colohue again, Travis Browne may be coming to WWE as well. Could the two of them make their return to WWE at ringside, cheering Shayna Baszler on?

If this is the case, it could be a great way for them to run in after Becky Lynch has dispatched Natalya off at SummerSlam? And even if they don't, it still becomes a huge talking point for WWE fans. The NXT Universe is used to seeing main roster Superstars in the stands, but this would be special.

I'd love to see her run in and destroy Mia Yim if she becomes Champion. What a great swerve this could potentially be, for all parties concerned!

#3 The Undisputed ERA wins all the gold, the OC invades proceedings

I know that it's a far fetched possibility, but the Undisputed ERA stands a chance to win all of the gold in the roster at TakeOver. And when that happens, could we see AJ Styles and The OC invade proceedings to challenge them to a match, down the line?

Mind you, these are three individuals that bypassed NXT entirely meaning that they could definitely do well if they're given a run in NXT. Gang wars to prove which is the more dominant faction (under the guidance of Triple H) would get more eyes on the WWE Network.

What you must not forget is that AJ Styles also threatened to find Shawn Michaels in NXT at RAW Reunion. So, all of this could potentially feed into a much larger storyline.

Just imagine the thunderous pop if The OC comes in, all guns blazing, at NXT TakeOver: Toronto.

#2 Another main roster superstar surprisingly shows up in the stands

There's a whole bunch of WWE Superstars in the main roster, who are up to nothing at all. Eric Young is one of them, a man who can't even find a featured spot in the 24/7 Championship picture, at the moment. This is a shame because the man is a legend.

I would love to potentially see him make a return to NXT just like his stablemate Killian Dain did, not long ago. The two men need not be a part of SAnitY anymore but could start to work their way up the ladder again. With new identities and gimmicks, there's no reason for them to not succeed.

I would also think that Luke Harper could potentially show up and take NXT by storm. He's doing nothing in the main roster and could perform far better in WWE's developmental territory.

#1 Mia Yim becomes the NXT Women's Champion, ending Shayna Baszler's run

The only reason I'm calling this title win a surprise is because of the dominant fashion in which Shayna Baszler has been booked in NXT thus far. It would be fair to say that she's been booked as dominantly as Brock Lesnar has, in the main roster.

I daresay that there's a certain contingent of fans that believe that Shayna Baszler's run has made the NXT Women's Division far less interesting than it should be. Maybe it is time for a change of guard and someone like Yim could be the right person to lead the charge this time.

Yim can potentially face off against heel Io Shirai in the months that follow if she becomes Champion. Could we see her raise her hands in victory at Toronto?

We don't have to wait too long to find out.
