WWE RAW: 5 Biggest news stories - Alexa Bliss appears in Edge's match, Drew McIntyre gets betrayed (February 1, 2021)

WWE RAW after Royal Rumble was a newsworthy episode
WWE RAW after Royal Rumble was a newsworthy episode

From Bad Bunny introducing an NXT star to Edge's main event match, this week's edition of WWE RAW featured many contrasting moments.

It almost felt as if the RAW after Royal Rumble was a post-WrestleMania episode, in the sense that there were a lot of newsworthy moments scattered throughout the show.

This doesn't mean that RAW was perfect from start-to-finish, but given the state of the show throughout the past few weeks, it does feel like there is a different mood surrounding the Red brand on the Road to WrestleMania.

Let us know what you thought about this particular episode in the comments section below.

Here are the five biggest news stories from this week's episode of WWE RAW (February 1, 2021).

#5 Naomi and Lana returned to WWE RAW and earned a shot for the Women's tag team titles

Lana and Naomi initially returned during the Women's Royal Rumble Match last Sunday. Both women were randomly teamed up on the RAW episode after Royal Rumble.

Lana and Naomi didn't just wrestle in any random tag team match, but they fought side-by-side in a triple threat tag team bout to become the No. 1 contender for the tag team titles.

Charlotte Flair and Asuka, as well as Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke, were also a part of the aforementioned match. Charlotte Flair and Asuka were the favorites to win, and they were very close to achieving the victory as well. However, Ric Flair and Lacey Evans arrived to aggravate The Queen, as Charlotte Flair left her partner alone in pursuit of Evans.

Asuka was taken aback by Charlotte Flair's actions. Naomi capitalized on the opportunity and hit the RAW Women's Champion with a Rear View for the pinfall victory.

Although Asuka had to take the fall here, she may address Charlotte Flair's desertion on WWE RAW sooner rather than later. Charlotte Flair and Asuka were predicted to face each other for the RAW Women's title at some point, and their match could take place on the Road to WrestleMania 37.

As for Lana, her feud against Nia Jax is far from over, as the underdog will team up with Naomi to take on Jax and Shayna Baszler for the WWE Women's tag team titles soon.

#4 Carlito returned to tag team action on WWE RAW

Carlito's surprising Royal Rumble return has been one of the best WWE returns of the year, so far.

While many names from the past only appear in the Royal Rumble for a one-off deal, it looks like Carlito may have a future on WWE RAW. Carlito teamed up with Jeff Hardy to take on Elias and Jaxson Ryker this week.

It was great to see two veterans of the game facing the newly-established duo of Elias and Ryker. Carlito looks to be in great shape. His first RAW match in more than a decade ended in a successful victory. The finish saw Carlito hitting a Backstabber on Elias, as Hardy tagged in to execute the Swanton Bomb for the pinfall.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Carlito may try out for the role of a producer in WWE. Whether he continues to be a part of the company as a performer or a backstage producer, it has been great to see him back in WWE either way.

#3 Damian Priest made his WWE RAW debut after a Miz TV segment with Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny's musical performance at WWE Royal Rumble led to an angle with The Miz and John Morrison. WWE continued that angle on this week's RAW.

While Bad Bunny's Royal Rumble musical performance itself was deemed somewhat unnecessary, it was essentially booked to set up Damian Priest's arrival on WWE RAW.

The Miz and John Morrison did a silly, but entertaining job during the Miz TV segment with Bad Bunny. The Dirt Sheet duo tried to join forces with Bad Bunny, but the Puerto Rican rapper wasn't interested in the deal.

Bad Bunny introduced WWE NXT's Damian Priest. Priest had been a part of the Men's Royal Rumble as well, and he eliminated Morrison and Miz at the event. It looks like he will wrestle on RAW from this point onwards.

Damian Priest wrestled against The Miz last night, and The Archer of Infamy emerged victorious from their bout. During the match itself, Bad Bunny also got involved in some action near ringside, right when Miz and Morrison tried to cheat.

As a whole, this was a pretty mainstream way to introduce Damian Priest on RAW, as he also got involved in a backstage segment with Edge later in the episode. It will be interesting to see how Damian Priest will fit in the current landscape of the Red brand.

#2 Sheamus betrayed Drew McIntyre on WWE RAW

Sheamus and Drew McIntyre's friendship had been showcased on WWE RAW over the past several episodes, and it came to a bitter end this week.

WWE fans had expected this to happen at some point, and the company pulled the trigger on the Road to WrestleMania.

Drew McIntyre had an in-ring segment with the 2021 Men's Royal Rumble winner, Edge, to kick-off this week's WWE RAW. The Scottish Warrior was nothing but respectful towards Edge.

But The Rated-R Superstar gave a warning and a piece of advice that the WWE Champion has a huge target on his back during this year's WrestleMania season. Sheamus was a part of this segment as well, who initially arrived to defend McIntyre's character on WWE RAW.

As of now, Edge hasn't made a decision on which Championship he will challenge for at WrestleMania 37. After Edge left the ring, Drew McIntyre posed with his belt in a dominant display. Unfortunately for the WWE Champion, he received a Brogue Kick from Sheamus soon after.

In two separate backstage segments featuring Drew McIntyre and Sheamus, it became clear that the two are set to collide on the Road to WrestleMania 37. McIntyre's backstage interview made a huge impact, as the WWE Champion did a great job in selling his emotions while he sent a message to Sheamus.

There is a lot of time to build up Edge's potential arc with Drew McIntyre. In the meantime, Sheamus and McIntyre's feud will most likely be an intensely personal rivalry on WWE RAW.

#1 Edge and Randy Orton's feud ended in the main event of WWE RAW, which also featured a bizarre cameo from Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss renewed her rivalry against Nikki Cross on this week's WWE RAW.

The former tag team partners wrestled in a one-on-one match on RAW. While Bliss did not have an impressive showing at the Royal Rumble, she was able to transform plenty of times during her bout against Cross. There came a point when the old Bliss surfaced in front of Cross, but it was only revealed to be a psychological trap for the latter star.

As expected, Alexa Bliss was able to defeat Nikki Cross on WWE RAW. As Bliss made her way down to the ramp, Randy Orton came out for his main event clash against Edge. The two briefly passed each other in a moment that gave away some important subtext.

Edge and Randy Orton's long-term feud finally concluded on this week's RAW. It was rumored a few months ago that both of them would face each other at WrestleMania 37, but it looks like that will no longer be the case. Edge had delivered a grueling performance at the WWE Royal Rumble, but he still managed to hold on against The Viper in their main event clash on RAW.

Towards the end, Randy Orton stopped in his tracks when Alexa Bliss appeared out of nowhere. Bliss sat on the top of a turnbuckle, as a strange black liquid oozed from her mouth. The distraction allowed Edge to spear Orton for the victory.

Now more than ever, it is clear that Randy Orton's storyline with Bray Wyatt and Alexa Bliss is far from over. Edge can move on to bigger things at last, and Orton can return to the magical and supernatural world of Wyatt and Bliss on the Road to WWE WrestleMania 37.

The Fiend/Bray Wyatt's potential return is the biggest moment that everyone seems to be waiting for, at the moment. Whatever mystery Bray Wyatt has in store for his dedicated fanbase, will certainly be one of the most discussed pro wrestling topics in the months to come.
