WWE RAW: 5 Reasons why Vince McMahon may make Baron Corbin 'King of the Ring 2019'

Could we be headed towards the era of Baron Corbin?
Could we be headed towards the era of Baron Corbin?

I know a lot of you reading this article do not want the image that you see to become a reality when RAW comes around. It will be one of two men- Baron Corbin or Chad Gable, who'll be crowned King of the Ring at RAW.

In this article, I shall chronicle the reasons why Vince McMahon may choose to go ahead with Corbin over Gable, at least this year. I'm guessing after reading the points that I'll list out here, you'll have a lot to say as well, and so I invite you to leave a comment in the section right below.

Bear in mind that the King of the Ring has always been the first step to superstardom for a variety of Superstars, be it Stone Cold Steve Austin or Bret 'The Hitman' Hart. And while going to the finals is always a big deal, history almost never remembers the second place.

So, now that the stage has been set, here's why I think Corbin will win this year.

#5 King Corbin is a gimmick that'll stretch for months

We've seen a glimpse of King Corbin already and from what we know, he'll be an obnoxious, over-the-top individual, who gloats about his victory. This could potentially lead to a lot of storylines and feuds, and cement Corbin as the top heel in the red brand in the months going forward.

This will not necessarily be the case with King Gable, because even though it will be a fantastic moment, it will come to an end right then and there, in my opinion. Nobody liked the fact that Shane McMahon won the 'Best in the World' trophy, but he made a gimmick out of it that helped in elevating several superstars, including Chad Gable.

#4 Corbin has improved his game in the ring

Baron Corbin did not come up from the independents like a lot of superstars in NXT did. And this earned him the ire of the smart fans because truthfully, he was a step behind a lot of the independent talent in NXT back in the day. But he's learned on the job and today; I would say that he's just as good as anyone in the roster when it comes to the WWE style, which is not necessarily as fast-paced as the independent style.

Corbin is a big man who does not wrestle like a monster but as a big, tough guy. He can make anyone he steps into the ring with look good, and holds his own against the best 'workers' that WWE has to offer, in a sense. Most importantly, he is always a cocky and annoying character, and always gets a reaction from the crowd, which is imperative when it comes to advancing a storyline.

Corbin may not always have the match of the night like say an AJ Styles or a Seth Rollins will, but he will always have a good match and that's enough to be a worthy candidate to be this year's King of the Ring.

#3 Chad Gable's character is not fully fleshed out

Listen, nobody can deny the fact that Chad Gable is a very talented competitor in the ring when the bell rings, but that's not all that makes you a WWE Superstar, in my opinion. I mean if you look at some of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time, whether it was Hulk Hogan or the Ultimate Warrior, they were not necessarily the best 'workers'.

WWE Superstars need gimmicks that connect with the fans that makes them want to cheer or boo the star in question and Corbin has that. Vince McMahon has worked hard on developing a special character for Baron Corbin that has been firmly established on TV already, in my opinion.

In fact, reaching the finals of the tournament could be a great way for Chad Gable to start working on a character, that goes beyond the fact that he's an Olympian, a former tag team wrestler and yes, that he is not tall. You need more than that to be a breakout star and yes, someone with a fully fleshed character is a far better character when it comes to playing the King of the Ring.

And that's Corbin!

#2 People love Baron Corbin backstage

Baron Corbin may be a despised figure on camera. But backstage, he's a really popular figure and he has a big fan in Vince McMahon, according to Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue. In fact, sources in WWE have revealed just why Corbin is so very popular.

While a lot of people have described Baron Corbin's heat as a bad thing, according to a lot of people in WWE, Superstars usually take years to garner the kind of response he gets. As per a source in WWE, Vince McMahon's fandom of Baron Corbin stems from the following reasons:

The management love Corbin. He doesn't injure people, he's really easy to hate and Vince loves the End of Days.

In a lot of ways, the End of Days is one of the company's most protected finishers because it's very rare indeed to see someone kick out of the move and such has been the case right from the start when Corbin first came up to the main WWE roster. I've also heard fan accounts of what a gentleman Baron Corbin is and how he's not like what we see on TV at all, so I can believe these backstage rumors!

#1 The lack of a credible heel on RAW

If you scan up and down the RAW roster, there are a lot of mid-card heels like Samoa Joe, Robert Roode, Dolph Ziggler, or even Drew McIntyre, but there's no main event heel just yet. I suppose AJ Styles qualifies in a way but his case is a little weird because he's such a popular figure among the 'smart fans', that even when they hate him, they don't really hate him.

In a sense, this is the reason why Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman are taking each other on, in a babyface vs. babyface contest in the main event of Clash of Champions. RAW needs a heel at the top of the roster who can get the crowd to hate him and actually buy tickets to see him get beaten up mercilessly.

This man is Baron Corbin and if he does become King of the Ring and begins to boast about his accomplishments, people will pay a ransom to see him down in the dirt. In time, he could also be inserted into the Universal Championship picture in a credible manner, not in a Mixed Tag match, where the outcome was obvious.
