What's the story?

Braun Strowman was written off WWE TV this week because he needs to undergo surgery on an injured elbow. This injury could keep Strowman out of TLC, which is why WWE reportedly already has a backup plan just in case Strowman isn't fully cleared to wrestle at next month's pay-per-view.

In case you didn't know...

Strowman has been working injured over the past few weeks and WWE knew that he would be sidelined at some point because he needed surgery on his elbow. The Monster Among Men has been one of WWE's main stars over the past few weeks and since Roman Reigns departure, he has been pushed into the spotlight, which is why the company have been unable to spare him until now.

Strowman is set to face Baron Corbin at TLC next month, a match that the two stars built up on Raw this past week but it has been noted that since his injury this match is now considered to be up in the air.

The heart of the matter

Mike Johnson of PWInsider recently noted that WWE is already preparing a backup plan for Strowman just in case he isn't able to wrestle fully at TLC since the true extent of the damage to his elbow will not be known until the surgery actually takes place.

“The expectation amongst those that I spoke to is that he will most likely make the TLC pay-per-view. But the big and I mean big asterisk there is once they cut him open they probably won’t know how bad the damage really is and you don’t know how the body is going to heal. So I was told that if they’re going to help it, they’re going to still have him on TV in some fashion. They don’t expect there’s going to be any major time away from television but you don’t know until you go in.”
“But the feeling I got from those this morning once I learned it was a legitimate injury was they could always do a very one-sided deal where he just kills Baron Corbin and wipes him out and then we wouldn’t really have to worry about him wrestling again until the Royal Rumble if that is the case and he needs some more time off in terms of physicality. So we’ll see. There was no sense of the sky is falling," he said (via Ringsidenews).

What's next?

Strowman has been written off WWE TV for the next few weeks, but the build to his match is expected to continue until TLC where the match will obviously go ahead in one form or another.
