In today's WWE rumour roundup, we take a look at why Brock Lesnar attacked Rey Mysterio's son, what Rey did in the ambulance on the way out of the arena and more!

Let's kick off with some major news today:

Former WWE champion to join AEW

Jack Swagger is set to join All Elite Wrestling according to Sports Illustrated. The former WWE World Champion is now a mixed martial artist and is signed with Bellator MMA. He competes in the heavyweight division under the name Jake Hager.

SI reports:

In other wrestling news, a potential surprise for AEW’s premiere on TNT, Sports Illustrated has learned, is Jake Hager, better known from his WWE run as Jack Swagger. An ardent Trump supporter and legitimate big guy, Hager would fit in nicely as a villain for the promotion. He would also add depth to the card, and his work in Bellator MMA could have crossover appeal for AEW.

AEW's weekly TV show starts on Wednesday and is something the fans have been looking forward to. Cody Rhodes has already confirmed that there is a lot of room for more stars to be added to the roster and Jake Hager could be one of them.

Michael Cole to be replaced by a fan favorite?

Michael Cole moves from Monday Night RAW to the SmackDown commentary team this week as the blue brand premieres on the FOX Network. The veteran commentator is set to handle play-by-play commentary, while Corey Graves will serve as an analyst with Renee Young as a Special Contributor.

However, Cageside Seats reports that Cole will not be on the show for long. They claim that Tom Phillips, a fan favorite, is set to replace him soon. Tom was a part of the SmackDown commentary team in the past but was omitted from the teams announced last week.

The report says: “Tom Phillips will be working backstage for now. There’s been talk he will eventually replace Michael Cole on SmackDown, however.”

Why Brock Lesnar attacked Rey Mysterio's son

Brock Lesnar brutally attacked Rey Mysterio and his son on Monday Night RAW last night and it stunned the WWE Universe. The fans were not expecting anything of that kind on the show as there was no hint about it.

Talking about the incident on WOR, Dave Meltzer said that the move was just to bring Cain Velasquez into the picture soon. Meltzer said:

Okay, so that Promo, he’s (Paul Heyman) talking about tough guys and he mentioned mixed martial arts and real fighters and nobody can touch him (Brock Lesnar), that was a promo for Cain.
In fact, I think that the whole segment with Rey and everything, it’s like you beat up the Mexican and the Mexican superhero badass comes in. That’s kind of what the idea was behind everything but Cain is not signed either. So, they have an idea, obviously, it’s Brock and Cain and this stuff was in that direction.
It may end up not happening but that’s the destination in theory that this is headed towards.

Will Rey return on Friday Night SmackDown and get his revenge on the Beast Incarnate during his WWE Championship match against Kofi Kingston? Or will Cain Velasquez be making his debut soon?

What Rey Mysterio did in the ambulance

Rey Mysterio's son was taken to a hospital following the attack by Brock Lesnar and both he and his father missed the whole show. Rey was supposed to be in the Universal Title match against Seth Rollins but had to be replaced by Rusev as he was unavailable during the show.

Something that caught Dave Meltzer's eye was Rey's gesture while his son was in the ambulance. Rey removed his mask just as he got inside the ambulance, reportedly to make the scene look more legitimate.

Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio:

"When he went into the ambulance, it was really interesting, they played the ambulance siren during the first match which is a little touch that would never be done. I thought that was very interesting. I thought it was actually pretty cool because at first when I heard I thought someone’s coming out. No, it’s the ambulance taking Dominick to the hospital.
"And the other one was when Rey went into the ambulance, he took his mask off, which was not called attention to at all, but he did. Which I thought was interesting too. I think that was the idea of trying to sell it as being serious and real and that the playtime, you know pro wrestling time is over. So that was just an interesting little twist. I don’t think anyone even picked up on it but that was like the idea."
