WWE Rumor Roundup – 16 August 2019

In today's WWE Rumor Roundup, we take a look at Ronda Rousey's role on a FOX TV series, The Rock's status for SmackDown Live's FOX debut, Brat Wyatt's message to Vince McMahon, and Chad Gable's new name, but let's begin with the big news of Roman Reigns' new contract:

Roman Reigns signs new multi-year contract

Like it or not, Roman Reigns is currently one of the best stars on the WWE roster. The Big Dog is not in the title picture right now, but it won't be long before he gets that big push once again.

Reigns returned to the ring earlier this year after a short break he took to battle leukemia. He has been slowly getting back to his best and WWE have ensured that he stays with the company.

The company has announced that he has signed a new multi-year deal and will be continuing with them for the foreseeable future. The former WWE Champion is one of the most decorated stars on the roster, having won the Universal, Intercontinental, United States and Tag Team Championships during his career.

Reigns also won the first-ever WWE Moment ESPY award following his return to the ring after battling leukemia. The Big Dog commented on his new contract and tweeted:

Chad Gable to get hilarious new name

WWE have been changing or shortening the names of several superstars this year, and Chad Gable is set to be the latest one. The former WWE Tag Team champion (NXT, Raw and SmackDown) is set to be called 'Shorty G' from now on.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that WWE had applied for a copyright for the name 'Shorty G' recently and that will be given to Gable soon. He said:

We noted a couple weeks ago that WWE has copyrighted the name ‘Shorty G’ for a potential character. If Chad Gable is going to be ‘Shorty G,’ if that’s where they’re going with it — I don’t sense a bunch of upward mobility in his future with his character.

WWE have already started laying the foundation for it with Sheldon Benjamin calling him 'short' in a recent backstage interview.

Bray Wyatt's message to Vince McMahon

Will The Fiend get on the WWE 2K21 cover?
Will The Fiend get on the WWE 2K21 cover?

Bray Wyatt's new gimmick 'The Fiend' is easily the best thing on WWE TV right now. He has been appearing in bits and parts and has had just one match so far. However, the way it has kept the WWE Universe hooked is unmatched.

Now, WWE Games have announced that he will be available as a playable character in WWE 2K20. The Fiend will be available as a pre-order bonus for WWE 2K20 Originals: Bump in the Night.

However, Wyatt is not content. He is now eyeing the WWE 2K21 cover and has sent out a message to Vince McMahon. In case you didn't know, Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns will feature on the cover of WWE 2K20.

With The Fiend already a huge success and the WWE Universe rushing to buy his merchandise, it won't be a surprise if Wyatt actually makes the cover of 2K21.

Ronda Rousey to appear on FOX TV show 9-1-1.

The Rock and Rousey to return soon?
The Rock and Rousey to return soon?

Ronda Rousey is on a hiatus from WWE and has been hinting at making a comeback. However, it looks like she will not be returning any time soon and instead, will work on a FOX TV show.

Reports in Deadline.com claim that Rousey has signed a deal to be a recurring character on the show. The report also states that her contract with WWE remains and she will not be leaving the company. So, it looks like this is something WWE have given her permission to do while she is away.

Backstage news on The Rock appearing on SmackDown Live's FOX debut

SmackDown Live is moving to the FOX Network in October and the company has a lot of stars and legends lined up to appear on the first show. Reports claim that several legends who appeared on the RAW Reunion will be making a return for the show.

The Rock is someone who missed the Reunion but it looks like WWE are doing all they can to bring him back for SmackDown Live's FOX debut. Wrestling Observer Newsletter report that he is yet to make a decision but as he was a huge part of the show initially, WWE and FOX are desperate to get him on board.
